So if your motorhome has a fancy strip of 5 or 6 little lights either side of the front grille and one of them is blown where do you stand if the boys in blue stop you? Let's assume you have working headlamps and side lights and indicators, a full set of lights required by law.

It would have to be a very picky plod.

Are daytime running lights an MOT failure?
1. Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) and their operation. DLRs are designed to make vehicles more visible during daylight hours and are now common on vehicles of testable age. DRLs themselves are not covered by the manual and are therefore not testable items.23 Jun 2014

Yeah, that's what I was told. Let's hope it hasn't changed in the last 7 years..... I wonder what the French, Spanish or German fuzz would think?

Again very picky. AFAIK if it legal MOT wise in your home country it is in the EU. If I ever got stopped and fined for such a trivial matter I would be sending their PM a letter stating exactly why I would not be spending my £££/Euros in their country ever again.

I'm not being 'picky' but;
"AFAIK if it legal MOT wise in your home country it is in the EU"

The above was true when we were members of the club, but..............
Good point. But countries outside the EU send vehicles here and we send vehicles there and we all take the home country’s MOT rules unless something is really amiss with the vehicle.

On the other hand, UK motorists might get picked on because we dared leave.

I think, but not 100% sure, that DRLs are now testable but there has to be a significant number of bulbs/leds not working to fail.
Same applies to high level brake lights.
Dealer claims they are not testable. But then he would say that wouldn't he?

If I remember correctly, the law says your front lights must be symmetrical. If that is the case then it's against the law.

Ah, that's an interesting wrinkle, if true.

Probably not, ‘we’ are not that significant but if the DRL are below standard then that could be an issue which ever country you come from.

Here you go.

I may be wrong, but having one blown lamp on one side might still make you illegal, regardless of whether or not the DRL's needed to be tested for MOT. I'm happy about them not needing to be tested for MOT since the vehicle is April 2017.

They probably wouldn't be interested . Here if it was manufactured without them you cannot retrofit them as they are a homologated item . Ask me how I know:rolleyes::giggle:

Probably thousands of cars all over the country running illegal then if they have to be identical side to side.
I regularly see cars with the odd, or more, DRL out, including my own. .
I certainly would replace at maybe £100 plus for the sake of a 5 Bob led being out if I didn't need to.

Yes,I’ve read that somewhere too,but can’t remember where or if it was a reliable source!

I had an odd one at my MOT in January this year

before I set off I had walked round and checked all the lights were on, drove into MOT bay and could see both DRL’s on in the mirror wall at end of bay

ours is a Mercedes chassis with a bulb fitting DRL not strip which I have changed to LED

the MOT place let me / like me to stay in and turn things on and off to save them getting in with dirty overalls . Restarted engine and one DRL didn’t come on, at end of test, daughter of owner said to Dad one was out but was on when I drove in

Dad says, not MOTable at our MH age as confirmed by PPJ above, and he wasn’t bothered, but gave headlamp a light thump and it came back on 👍😁

not too sure what you can make of that , but our MOT station at least didn’t mind eneven or non working lights , on that day at least 🤔👍

Do we know what the bolded wording means exactly?

In the December itv they hummed and haaaed check what was homolgated then told me not to bring it back in July with them . I said I will pull the fuse and he said no, removed completely and the wiring to each side.
They are fitted to come on with ignition, through a relay and go off ad soon as sidelights are turned on.
I'd go as you are other places might well say nothing.
I am assuming to OP means one of the 5/6 leds in the strip is out leaving the rest working. Hardly the crime of the century!!
True but when the lorries started running multiple side lights each side at the rear one blown bulb leaving 2 others working legally counted ad having no lights on that side. Ridiculous. So in theory the same applies to the new type multiple leds. One out the rest don't Count.

Cant remember the percentage of led's that have to fail before it's an mot fail, for drl, indicator, lights......I'm sure it's been on the forum before regarding rear lights
