I am a member of C&C club.
I don't understand about the DAs and THS. They seem to be organised by local branches, but do I have to be a member of that local branch to use the site when there is a DA.
. Can I go to any DA or THS just because I fancy using that site at that time?
Would I need to take part in any meeting or do anything particularly ? 🤔

You can go to any meeting but always best to phone the number of whoever is organising it. We have used quite a lot of THS’s which are usually just a field with water and toilet emptying facilities.

We went to one in Skegness years ago and it turned out to be a line dancing special interest group (could be worse I suppose 😆) so we had a dance one of the nights 💃☺️

It's a great way to camp. There is no pressure to join in with anything. Just carry your membership card and you can attend any THS or meet that you fancy. Always best to ring in advance to confirm availability

You can use any THS and DA but for the DA ones would suggest phoning to confirm a place especially at the moments as some venues are limited on capacity.

As already said, you are welcome at any meet or ths but, at the moment, many have to be booked so they have all your contact details.

I go to the Folk, Dance and Song club meets but I am going to be more adventurous next year and maybe go to some of the Photographic club meets.

I suppose it could have been worse. It could have been Morris dancing 😱😱😱😂😂.

An advert for a DA meet would usually be organised and attended by a particular District Association, they are often theme specific eg. Halloween. Anyone can go.
An advert for a THS will again be organised by a District Association but it is usually a field (with limited facilities), with a couple of volunteers running it. There isn’t usually a theme and it is open to anyone turning up (subject to there being spaces so as advised best to ring ahead for the popular locations)

At the first THS I went to I was told that "any member can go to any meet" l have always made a courtesy call or text to say that I'll be coming only been told once that it was full booked and had a waiting list.
A couple of groups get around the any member rule, the boating group insist you pay a high price for the whole week but it includes unlimited use of the launching ramp so its good value if you have a boat. The lightweight brigade, aka backpackers, hold their in fields without vehicle access. Been made welcome in all the ones I've been to. THS and CSs are the only bit of the club I use.

Been a member of CCC for a few years. Never ever used one of their campsites but certainly use the THS places. Great value and some good location. Usually just turn up but in past 2 years with the covid situation I have phoned ahead to check.
They are very handy if you travel around a lot and just need to do one night to refill water and empty the cassette. 👍

Down load "Out and About" app.. THS's and Rally's listed there.. you can search by destination, DA or date.
Usually kept well up to date and contains all contact details and relevant info you need.

I am on the committee for our local DA and it surprises me the number of people that sign up to the club and know nothing about the grass roots camping. We have rallies throughout the year open to ALL members from any area. Some are booked only due to restricted numbers and last year for obvious reasons. We like most other areas run 3 or 4 THS meets, again open to all and ask any visitor to phone ahead to confirm a space.

2 places to look are the out and about section of the main club website, repeated on the app or magazine if you opt for it. The other being the various DA websites and facebook groups. We have enquiries daily about meets

Did a couple of THS this year for the first time will probably use them again, we would rather be in a field with a tap don't need any other facilities.

We've used a few C&CC THSs and think they are great. Organisers are usually very friendly and it's up to you whether to join in any social activities. A laid back and relaxed vibe. :giggle:

Can be outstanding value during main holiday periods, when other sites can be more expensive. (y)

Haven't tried any DA meets... yet.

No, just turn up at any THS. We’ve never had to book one.👍

It's thought polite to call first especially in school holidays just in case there full. Contact details are in the Out & About booklet that will be sent to you if you ask.

I've only done a couple of ths. Weymouth Rugby club and the Fairford Riat. Both good prices

We’re great believers in THSs, but please don’t assume you don’t need to book. The popular ones fill up quickly. One of our favorites is Porth Beach Holiday Park Newquay. Superb facilities that could put Caravan Club to shame, literally over the road from the beach, Tapas Bar at the entrance, pub on the beach EHU and bus top outside. No good for Lenny HB at £18/£20 per night but that’s a fraction of their normal summer rates. We‘ve stayed at farm field THSs but many others based on official campsites at greatly reduced rates

Where is that one please, we are planning on a few DA & THS next year and this looks ideal.
As Kybod has identified, this is Sunderland, Seaburn Camp. Morrisons next door and close to the beach. Several groups use it for THS's, simple field with water and elsan point.

To me that looks like the Seaburn THS, North of Sunderland. A few years since I was there but the morrisons next door is handy.

I used this one years ago after the air show. Met Scran (Steve) there he introduced me to MHF, haven't seen him since not even on line. I understand he lost his wife marylyn some time later. They use it as a fairground during the show. For the air show we were at onother one out of town by a big roman tytemple like structure can't remember the name.

THS are the best thing about motorhoming in the U.K. They are cheap, friendly and usually brilliantly located within the resort or place of interest as opposed to campsites which are miles away in some cases.
Also you can use any of them, including those in British caravan club sections of the CCC. Usually there are more Motorhomes than caravans.
In 2021 we used four THS. Southport Victoria Park (sited next to the caravan club site but more accessible to the town centre and a third of the price), Wareham in Dorset at the Rugby Club a five minute walk into town), Kettlewell in the Dales village centre and Pateley Bridge at the Nidderdale showground just over the bridge from the town centre. Perfick.
Edit: plus Whitby at a College, possibly 15 minute walk into the Harbour.
