Dart crossing

After see a comment from bobandjanie about Dart crossing account being closed , I thought I would look at mine, having recently put my brothers car on it (I did notice the closed text but thought that was because we hadn’t used it lately)
and it says account closed.
Annoying the only way you can contact them is by letter or premium 0300 number.
So best if account holders check, mine was the type of account that it takes money when you use it.

0300 numbers are non geographic numbers not premium numbers. Many phone operators include them in the call allowance, my BT Mobile call allowance covers 01, 02 ,03 and calls to mobiles.

I have noticed that it does say If not used in 1 year account will be closed.
so go on website and try and setup a new account but get notice “email already in use” so use another email and then add vehicle reg and get a notice” vehicle already in use”

We discovered our account had been closed,but with money still in it! Obtained a refund of £20,with no problems and now the account just takes the dosh automatically when wego that way.

I thought that number was charged but it’s not.
I rang and reinstated the account.

Changed our Dartford crossing over to "pay as you go", so you don't have to worry about forgetting to pay or preloading your account.
The account stays open as long as you have a valid credit card registered on your account.

Mine was a PAYG account but it was closed, I think I read on the site if it hasn’t been used for a year it will be closed.

Just checked my account, and our last crossing was 29/08/2019 and my account is still open.

I would say that is the most likely scenario.

My understanding is that they USED to close unused accounts after 12 months.

However since the pandemic, so many people stopped using the crossing and then re-started two years later thinking they still had a valid account that they are now keeping accounts open as long as the card is valid.

I'm not sure what happened to all the closed accounts, maybe they reopened them ?
But you can go online and check your personal account and find out.

Even if you only use the crossing once in 2 years, it's worth setting up an account as it will save you a lot of grief if you forget.

You can enter as many plates as you like to one account, so you can do the family a favour and register them all if they are only occasional users.

Just checked ours which has £12.00 credit, and although the last crossing was northbound in September 2020, the account is still active.

You can put on another vehicle, say your siblings, which will replenish the site. Then take it off again in a couple of weeks.

That’s how I noticed it was closed, when I put my brothers car on.

I got a email yesterday saying my DART account would be closed but it gave clear instructions how to keep the account open. Logged onto my account and there is a pop up button that allows you to extend the account for a further 12 months with no need for any further top up monies. All fairly clear and simple, for a change
