Got home on Monday to find a dart charge fine, my fault forgot to change the numberplate on the tow car so it appears as a separate car.
The charge is from the 30/08/21 with the issue date of the fine as 10/09/21, I paid on Monday so more than 14 days after.
So I was expecting a £70 fine plus £2.50 for the crossing, but the website just said £2.50 so I paid, and had an email to say I had paid the fine, so well happy with that if a little confused?

You owe me £67.50.
Forgot to remind you!

If you use the Dartford crossing at least once per year, then it's worth setting up a free account. Here

You can load as many vehicles as you like onto your account. so you could do the entire family a favour and put them all on.
As long as one vehicle uses it in a year it's worth doing.

Despite living 15 miles from the crossing, I only use it maybe once or twice a year, but it saves the grief, expense and trouble of a fine.

My whiff has been caught twice and let off on both occasions. Now added to my account so won’t happen again.

Got both cars and the freedom bus on the account.

Just a small point. If you don't use it for a year, they send you an email telling you to use it or they shut it down. So depending on where you live take a trip to Bluewater/Lakeside.

That was last year but you also had the choice of addding another tenner to keep it open ,which I did last year. they have changed it now so you can log in to your account & click on " keep it open muppetts" , without adding any money or "close it" for a return of the funds to bank account used to top up.
I kept mine open a week ago.

I think I read somewhere that you get the first fine "free". Forget to pay again and normal fines apply?
I think not ! They closed my account without my permission and then hit me with a £75.00 fine for crossing without paying. I never even got an email to say I had crossed !!!! I paid the fine, made a formal complaint, wrote to my MP who looked into it and ended up with a full refund. Dartford crossing say if you dont use your crossing within a certain time frame they close your online account even if still in credit like mine was. I got that back too. Now opened up a new account and keep a close eye on it!

Of course, we were told that in 2010, the crossing was completely paid for, all tolls would cease and the cash cow would be packed off to McDonalds.

So you did get your first fine "free" - in the end :-)

That happened to me. I completely forgot about paying and got a fine, when I called them to pay I was amazed to be let off it as it was a first offence.
