Put the fridge covers on this morning. Bolting the door after the horse has bolted.
Normally in the winter when the van is not used so much I leave them on.

What do they do ? apart from giving you something you need to remember to do before you use again
Just keeping the weather out.
I haven't yet used them for their alleged proper purpose , using the fridge with temperatures below 8° C (I think)
You are right in the sense that if you forget them they will fall off when you drive 🙂

I intend to use my van over New Year and have never used the covers.
Am l correct in thinking that using gas they must be left off, so using mains electric should they be on or off ?
Thanks in advance for advice 👍

hi guys . always take the top one off when using the fridge to let the heat escape summer or winter other wise it won't work as they should do . bill puts the bottom one on in summer when its vary windy as it stops the gas jets doing there job properly . over the years & m/h's ( 7 ) we have had we think thetford fridges are the best val

The answer is...go for an all 12v one they are marvellous.

I am new to motor homing and haven't bought them yet - very expensive for what they are. However I have been reading up on their use and it is my understanding that they should be used when the temperature falls below 8 deg. Should also be removed if above 8 deg. All to do with the way the fridge operates. I also understand that they can be used on gas but do the usual google search for definitive answer.

Best to leave the top one off when running on gas, although on the big fridge freezers Dometic don't say leave them off, if you leave the top one on its gets hot & soft.

Best to fit them when not using the van they stop a lot of crap getting in behind the fridge and Dometic say they must be fitted when washing the van.

I think considering how basic the design is for these winter covers, just flimsy plastic, both Domestic and Theford brands, they'd probably be considerably cheaper getting the dimensions and having them 3D Printed.......... They seem like an ideal item for the task..

Mine have never fallen off. I use them during winter months

Mine have never fallen off either BUT one does have to turn the screws 90% or they might? I use my Murvi PCV ALL year around and I put my covers on when the first heavy frost is forecast and, USUALLY, leave both on until the frost's have finished. Never had any problems.

When I used the VW T25 California BEFORE the Murvi, I just used to use wide Gaffer tape, front grill and fridge.
