Since Nov 2010 after 25 yrs under canvas.
We are in the early stages of considering our next van. At the moment we have a Globecar Campscout which is excellent. I would really like a more comfortable back seat, and better lighting. So far all my research shows every pvc has the same upright bench seat which is not really comfortable for a long nights sitting.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We may end up moving to a carthago i138 which obviously fixes this issue.

Is you’re driver/passenger seat not comfortable enough?

They’re the prime spots in our van.

They are very comfortable but not ideal. The person who sits on the drivers side tends to find his/her legs dangling. Also we like to play rummikub so it is essential that we sit opposite each other for that.

Looked around a lot of vans before I did our conversion and noticed that none of the dinette seats looked comfortable because of the upright position. I therefore used a double mini bus seat which is very comfortable although we only use the cab seats when turned around.
Perhaps you could change the seat for a more comfortable one.?

Most comfortable seat is Westfalia Columbus as it is angled and less upright.

I Have had a 138 & 143 neither bench seats are comfortable. I now have a Malibu PVC 640 Charming which we find very comfortable, but you have not got as much room in the kitchen are. Hope this helps. ;)

Guys, take a look at the IH Motorhomes homepage, it features their latest rear passenger seats, individual car like seats, recline a bit, move sideways for a bit of elbow room, looks v interesting. Haven’t sat on one yet so can’t judge comfort, but looks great!

Our Devon Colorado had a central dinette which converted to a double bed. The problem with this arrangement was that the sofa was too small for even one person to lie down on and converting to the double bed took up all the space in the van.

We prefer the arrangement with our Hymercar Ayers Rock which has a smaller central dinette and a fixed rear double bed. We don't use the small dinette sofa ourselves but the dogs do. The rear double bed is always available to crash out on.

On both vans the driver and passenger captains chairs can be rotated and reclined.

Some PVC bench seats are more comfortable than others. We sat on lots of different ones at the NEC before deciding to buy a Rapido Van. Adria Twins especially were too uncomfortable for us, being very upright and unyielding. The Westfalia Columbus bench seat was outstanding for comfort but the van price was too steep.

Solved the driver's seat dangly legs issue with one of those fold-up steps from Ye Olde Pound Shoppe, which stores in the locker above the cab, and a bath step under the table for the passenger's dangly legs.

Out of interest, how much was it? I wouldn’t be prepared to pay more than a Guinea. ?

I've now reverted to using a couple of pillows which I prop up against the back/side of the seats. It's now one of the comfiest seats around albeit our pillows are like giant marshmallows :D

I'm awaiting delivery of a Malibu GT 600 bought from the Dusseldorf show, should be arriving February-ish. Your concerns about comfort are also my main concerns as I'm coming from a Hymer with a six foot sofa and 3 captain chairs (bar layout) which is supremely comfortable for lounging. Having spent 2 full days looking at and trying every PVC on offer, there is definitely differences between brands and whilst none are 'sofa' comfy, some bench seats are noticeably better than others. What makes a difference is the rake of the rear cushion and the depth of the seat itself - the bigger the rake and the deeper the seat the better. The Malibu was up there with the best and whilst I'd already preselected this van if the bench seat was uncomfortable I wouldn't have bought it.

I'm surprised no-one has substituted the bench seat for a single captain chair, seems a much better option for two people travelling, that would definitely be my preference, I'm sure that layout will come in time.

We also have a Rapido van (V68 - same layout as Campscout) and think the bench seat is a cut above some of the competition. Not saying it's necessarily the best, but we both find it provides very acceptable comfort.

We thought that when we went from our Pilote to the Globecar but all of our worries were soon kicked to touch.

We use all four seats and have a great level of comfort.

Enjoy your van, you'll have a great time.

I'm surprised no manufacturer has yet come up with cab seats with pop-up foot rests, like recliner chairs, I'm sure they would go down a storm!

Oh yes with built in massage for the body and calves along with heaters, with stems that pop out to hold the champaign glasses with little chilling holders on the end to keep the Bollinger at the right temperature. (self making ice bucket to hold the bottle between the seats (pops out of sight when the chairs swivel for travel).

I could just take the seats out of my car, they are heated and have 9 massage settings

Now if they would fit in a motorhome that MIGHT not be such a daft idea ... just need to work on getting some with recliner bits at the front for legs! ?

Until the heated seat refuses to switch off - mine did that. You try driving while your backside is hovering an inch above the seat! Scorchio :xdoh:

Roasted chestnuts anyone?

Nasty!

I have been known to put on the passengers seat without them knowing, they always seem to suddenly be concerned about incontinence!
