Hi
Maybe a daft question but my moho starter battery is under the passenger foot well area. When connecting a ctec (or any other trickle charger) to top up the battery, is it safe to connect the leads direct to the battery in situ or should I be clipping the black lead to another point somewhere within the cab? I realise if we need to jump start the moho we use the points under the bonnet.
Thanks in advance.

It was ok for us. They also sell some leads with a jack plug thing that can left attached all the time to the battery and just plug in to when needed

It's fine to clip directly to the battery.
With CTecs, it's worth getting the short lead that has rings on it to bolt directly to the battery and give you their "comfort connector" permanently attached to the battery. That way it only takes a second to plug in and remove, with no danger of shorting anything.

So going to look stupid now,

Theres a cheap devise I bought via this web site that is easy to fit (3wires) and means that when on hook up your vehicle battery charges as well as your leisure battery.

i.e. No need for a ctek

Thanks all. After reading some forums I thought I would be in danger of an explosion if I clipped both leads direct to the battery. I feel reassured now.
Boris7- my sargent charger has the smart charge option to charge both batteries but I thought the ctec would have advantages over this such as the recondition phase. Is this not the case?

We can only hook up from time to time over winter and we had the ECU airbag fault last winter over lockdown so we were trying to prevent this from happening again. We also have a small solar on the roof which is not of much use when the sun is low over winter.

The explosion risk is if you are jumping a vehicle with a flat battery; you'll get a spark when connecting in that case as there is a large current inrush between the full battery and the flat one.

The Ctek is very gentle at power on, after connection it waits, checks what it thinks is connected, then starts to ramp up the charge rate. It won't spark when you initially connect it. Good question though!

No idea about the sargent, but Ctek chargers are very good at looking after batteries.
