Connecting a 12v tyre inflator

I connect my 12v tyre pump from the ancillary 12v supply point in the X250 Fiat engine bay. The neg lead goes to the engine block. Refer to your Fiat handbook

Presumably both batteries share a common earth? If so, then that will work.

Don't expect it work for long Dave, you're pushing 24v into the inflator.
Those batteries are connected in series... 24v.
Pos of 1 battery should be connected to Pos of 2 battery and the same with negs for parallel.

That's what I thought but didn't want to show my ignorance.
But why would it be like that on a motorhome?
