Laser printers are very good, toner lasts me well over 12 months, it is only a black and white one though, it is also quicker at printing, and works out cheaper per sheet of A4 , I need a toner now, run out.oh:

For B&W printing I use an HP LaserJet 1015 - it's 10 years old and the toner cartridges last for ages. I've used HP and compatibles, and if anything the latter are better.

For colour printing I used to use an Epson, which I ran on OEM for a while and then compatibles (www.consumablemad.co.uk) and found the latter fine. When it broke down (mechanically) after about 8 years I refused to buy another Epson because

a) I couldn't recycle their cartridges;
b) they were the only printer company who seemed to be aggresively taking cheap cartridge sellers to court across Europe (and usually getting them shut down).

So I switched to a Canon and have been using compatibles on that for 4 years.
