Hi all,
We are looking to insure our first motor home with Comfort insurance and have seen on previous posts people have highly recommended them but would just like to hear from anyone who has unfortunately had to make a claim from them for either theft, due to an accident or anyone who has had to contact them to use their breakdown cover and ask would they recommend the service they received
Thanks in advance

Yes.

Unfortunately we had to make a claim in July 2018 when an unsecured height barrier swung, in the wind, and hit the nearside of our PVC. We lodged our claim from France, where we were touring and told them when we expected to get home.

On arriving home we found a letter, dated one week before, saying that Comfort had arranged for our m/h to be assessed by their preferred repairer, giving a telephone number to contact.

I contacted Comfort direct, saying that we would prefer to use our own, trusted, repair centre. They agreed readily, asking us to get them to forward their estimate.

The estimate was accepted without problems and the repairs carried out.

We were quite happy with their service throughout.

Hope this helps.

I had a claim a few years ago no problems using my own choice of repairer. Premium only increased by £10 following year.

Had a breakdown some years ago. I actually rang the wrong number but was put through to the breakdown service anyway (RAC as it happened, it's AA now I understand). Patrol with me in 25 mins, fault diagnosed (well actually confirmed, I knew what was wrong) and a repair organised at a nearby garage. Even offered to find us a hotel as it couldn't be fixed straightaway.
I know this is mainly due to the RAC organisation but the fact that Comfort used them has given me confidence with any future problem.

If you are looking to shop round have a look at NFU motorhome insurance. Again a very well thought of company with good feed back. I think Jim has opened an insurance section to put recommended companies in. Its within the reviews section of the Fun site
If you are looking to go to Morocco Comfort are one of the few that offer a Green Card

We have used Comfort and at each renewal the cost has been reducing

At Present we have not had to make any calls to them for problems so hoping it will stay that way for a good while

Yes I think NFU do come highly recommended...............but they quoted us twice the price of Comfort ??

It's such a lottery out there with insurance. When I renewed in January Comfort came out a few pounds more expensive for an RM11 postcode than NFU.
From what I understand NFU are very much postcode reliant and it could just be that areas of the UK are loaded higher.
I ring round every year to make sure i get the best cover/price.
The problem with NFU is that they do not offer Fully Comp green card for Croatia and Morocco, so Comfort will be favoured if your requirements include those Countries

I also had a windscreen replaced with Comfort, no problem at all.

I can only comment with regard to making a claim for windscreen damage through Comfort.... quick and easy
Hi.
I have had two windscreens go one year apart, and Comfort made the process so easy, both times. Will be stopping with them.

I had a claim after an accident in Portugal, put a hole in the side of the van on an overhead sun canopy. Rang Comfort who gave me the choice of having it repaired over there or at home as it was still driveable I chose home. On arriving home 6 weeks later I rang them and the very next day a inspector called and checked the damage and I was given a choice of repairers, the van was in within a week of getting estimates absolutely no hassle at all.
My premium went up slightly but not a he amount. I couldn't fault the service

Is Comfort a broker or a company. I mean would I ring the broker who sorts all our insurance out and ask them to get a quote of Comfort

It's underwritten by Aviva so I suspect just a broker (y)

We had a claim through them and Comfort were great - Aviva less so.

Lost the paperwork and I only found out they had paid out on my behalf when I renewed again (n)

I had hit a metal bucket lying in the middle of the motorway while travelling through France last year. I contacted Comfort as the damaged skirt was over £600.00. I supplied photos of damage and they arranged for the repair when we returned home after our 3 month trip. We arrived home on a Friday the van was taken to the dealer on the Monday and picked up again on the Thursday. We were very impressed. There has been very little difference in this years premium.

Viewing the insurance posts are always interesting around claims. Comfort and many other insurance companies have positive posts when a claim is settled without hassle.

It would be nice to see a post around negative companies, although I suspect this would leave Jim and the poster very exposed around civil claims for defamation.

From speaking to many seasoned MH owners, I have learnt to look at a policy to see if it has been underwritten specifically for a motorhome and check it covers for the small incidents associated with the Motorhome ownership. For instance storm damage to the awning , branches breaking and damaging vans. Although not noticed by myself, I was informed that historically MH insurance was just based on a car insurance with Motorhome stated as vehicle. So when damage for awnings and the like were made it appears the claim was rejected because no such item would have been listed in the policy of a standard vehicle.

It appears that underwriters have over time covered more and more specific areas to motorhomes and thus the Motorhome based policy now appears.

Each year when I renew I look in detail as to what is covered because I suspect as policies are getting more expensive, to keep the cost cover down exclusions may creep in compared to a policy you may have had before.

Good cover hunting

Comfort are technically a broker
But they only do MoHo/Camper/Caravan insurance and they only use Aviva
That is fairly specialist and they have been around a long time
Fortunately I have not made a claim, but delighted with their "front end" performance so far

Comfort are a broker, but I believe they have an exclusivity agreement with Aviva as sole provider of that insurer's motorhome policies.

Yep same here. NFU very good press but very pricey. The ONLY way you find out if your insurer is any good, you don't want , that's when you make a claim. Been with Comfort for three years now VERY reasonable quotes.
