I was wondering if anybody has upped their annual milage halfway through the year & how much it cost Them ?

I was thinking I might be closer to the max annual mileage I stated when taking out my insurance with comfort, going to France in June & I am a little concerned I might go over , with insurance I’ve had in the past (not MH ) they would ask estimated milage
but comfort have things like up to 6k or up to 10k etc , a little concerned !

Not a problem, just phone them if you think you need more miles towards the end of the year - they told I could do it any time!

Hope they do as above, they told me the same

I had to abandon an AIB policy when we unexpectedly got to go to Norway, a 6K round trip alone which is what we predicted for the year, rang to increase we could only add a max 2K miles

so had to start a new policy that came into force while we were away to max out the old policy miles

to say I was surprised with AIB terms was an understatement

thanks for the reply but I am aware that I can increase my milage , I was really wanting to know what the cost was ? , has anybody has done it ?

You can be assured that they’ll not be cheap, plus you’ll have the obligatory ’admin’ fee to pay i.e. +£25 to change 10000 to 12000.

Upped mine with Comfort on last year's insurance to go from 8000 to 10000 it was £49.50+ £20 admin.

If you don't increase it and have a claim over your declared mileage it used to be up to 500 miles over excess increases to £500, over 500 miles excess increases to £1000.

We changed the limit on renewal as there’s no admin fee that way. It went up £29 for another 3k miles.

Obviously there will be the admin fee but I doubt it will be very much otherwise. We upped ours from 6 to 8000 at renewal and it went up 1p. That was with Comfort. We had changed vans half way through the policy last year to a brand new van and the admin fee was £25 so I don’t think they will rip you off.

We‘re with Comfort and went the other way - our renewal was based on unlimited mileage, rang up to reduce that to 10 000 miles pa, which saved £80-odd on the premium. I asked about what happens if I need to increase mid-year, reply was the £80 plus £20 admin charge.

I would like to know what the actual figures are for mileage versus risk on motorhome mileage. I was once told by an insurance broker that any mileage in excess of 3,000 miles is considerd high mileage for motorhomes3. But to me, the motorhome is at risk wherever it is, on the drive, on a campsite, in storage. And the old adage that a high mileage driver is a safer risk than a Sunday driver, makes sense to me. At one time, I was travelling daily into to central London from virtually the south coast. No accidents. Easily 30,000 or so a year, for decades. I should add, this was not in a motorhome! The more miles you do, the more forewarned and experienced you are. I presently do 10,000 plus each year with the motorhome, mostly abroad, which is our only vehicle. So I am well experienced with continental and UK driving. Some guy on his first continental trip is surely more of a risk. Yes, any moment on any road, there is a risk. But experience teaches the driver to avoid these risks. I think it is just another price hike thought up by insurance brokers/insurance companies.
