One of our friends has just bought her first motorhome - a 15 year old Hymer in great condition. The keys have a cobra fob attached with spares and there is a cobra socket for disarming with the tiny cylinder on the dash. The dealer told her that they can't find the alarm so they don't think it has one fitted. Her insurance will go up if it isn't there so she's asked us for help. How do we check that it still has one?

Try pressing the fob and see what happens? If it beeps and the lights flash then there's something there. If nothing happens it doesn't necessarily mean it's not there though.

Even if you can confirm it's there it might not help much.

When insurance companies are insisting on an alarm they also generally want to see installation paperwork which she obviously won't have.
