Always parked up here at start and end of holidays. Yes there were refugees wandering around but as long as you were careful when leaving we had no problem

however now wondering if anyone has been back and parked overnight again without problems since it was closed

cheers

carol

Don't know about the French but the police told him to leave have a search for colyboy I don't know how to copy the link

I may be wrong but I have never seen that it is open for overnight parking again.

it isn't closed. it is just no overight parking becuase of the illegals & now they are warning Brits off even stopping to go shopping

no it isn't.

You'd think the supermarket would want something done about it as it must cost them a lot of trade

Thanks lenny

When we were re my recent post.

The local police said you know you are not allowed to stay overnight? We suggest you don’t even shop here all “they” are interested in is the GB plated vans, not the German, Dutch, etc etc

Colyboy

Thanks. I had read your post earlier but are there signs up to say no parking? Not sure cité d’Europe would like them saying don’t shop there.
How is your wife now?

We stopped there last year ( October 20) for shopping on the way home for shopping. I stayed in the van, suddenly felt the van rocking, got up to investigate and police were checking under our bike cover. Told us to take the cover off as it was a hiding place and it was advisable to leave the cover off when near Calais. No overnight parking! Not sure if I would even bother stopping there for shopping now!

Stopped briefly last night at around 1800 to get baguettes Duncan stayed in the van whilst I went in. He saw a guy trying to handle Ivoire door and soon saw him off.

It has a sign at the entrance to say it is closed the parking, from 2100 every day, doesn’t mention parking overnight, but obviously that is what is meant.

We then drove on to the aire at Rue d’Asfeld for thé night. Long long drive up from Cornwall and so tired. Gets harder as we get older. But decided on old A30 to avoid the inevitable queues at Stonehenge as end of Band Holiday

just off now to do our shopping. By the way only 6 on the train!!!!

It's a shame. It used to be so easy made up of a specific routine. I used to look forward to the drive across from North Yorks, quick stop for coffee and cheese on toast before drive down A1, stop for another coffee at Designer Outlet near Ashford, buy shower gel for hols from tunnel, through tunnel to Cité Europe, buy an assortment of beer and a couple of glasses from Terre de Boissons, early to bed and then early start round the corner to the A16 after water top up and cassette dump. Next time my first night's stop will be at Canterbury, so 4 half pints of different beer in The Foundry. I've never been able to face the open grid cassette dump at Canterbury.

I won’t be bothering when we go tomorrow. There’s plenty of other supermarkets.
I did stop there last year in the daytime but there were loads of clandestines in and around the parking.

I suppose you all know, that there is a huge supermarket about a mile from the gravelines Aire.
For a late crossing it's everything you need.

You ask what stops the Supermarkets taking action, the situation has changed even before leaving Europe.
The UK trade is not any longer significant, had you noticed the NL and D plates recently a vast increase in EU neighbours shopping there.
I suspect from my work in the EU that will be an increasing trend, a change in emphasis.
The increased cost to UK consumers will grow, small companies setting up operational depots in France etc. Is becoming the norm.
Just reality that will be faced.

Are British vans being targeted at the Auchan at Boulogne-su-Mér? We have stopped there before to stock up and never had a problem. My understanding is the problem is now worse than ever with increased numbers stretching further out from Calais. My plan is to get onto the A16 and drive to Saint Valery Sur Somme avoiding the area.

I’d have thought that folk travelling to and from the UK would be the main customers since it is they who use the tunnel.

If you need booze Calais wine warehouse is good but watch out for the immigrants again. Check under your van etc before you head for your crossing .

There's a couple , Lidl across from the harbour and a Super u (which i usually use for fuel going out and to use the washers coming back) just off the roundabout heading to the old aire at Grande- Fort- Philippe

Yeah forgot Lidl  super u was the one I meant.

In fact there is another stop that no one ever mentions, just over the other side of the motorway from gravelines, it is a massive car park for the schools and a fitness place, never anyone else on it at night, no charge but no services, we have occasionaly used this on a Monday night ready for the Tuesday market just a short walk up the road in the centre of town.
Very quiet sometimes someone walking a dog but that's it.
