COE. BE VERY CAREFUL!

While doing a little shopping in the COE before getting my wife Ann on the train to UK for treatment. We no you not allowed to stay overnight there, but can park there while shopping. While parked up talking to fellow motorhomer we saw two “gentlemen” looking at our van and others, one walked around back of our van and I caught him trying one of the doors which was locked, I challenged him and he walked away , but within seconds the police arrived and carried him off! The police did come and have a chat with me and said DO NOT COME HERE EVEN IF ONLY SHOPPING as these people are Only interested in vans GB plates on . So please be aware.

They were all over our scooter rack last September, even just stopping for diesel one jumped on the scooter... and I can imagine it's worse now.

We not stopping at all in Calais ever again.

This is relevant to me, as I want to stay somewhere the night before our tunnel journey to UK on 31st August. We will be arriving from the North on our way back from Spa. I'd hoped to be reasonably close, to catch an 10:20 am train, without having to get up too early.

Does any have any suggestions where we could stay for the night?

Hi.
NOT !!.... at Jabbeke services. They were hiding in the bushes 20 odd years ago. We were advised then not to stop within a 25 mile radius of Calais with the lorry.

I'm very interested too. We always stopped there, both on the way out and the way back. A real shame it's closed.

If coming from the North, gravelines seems the obvious choice.

We are on the train late next Friday night, so looking for somewhere heading south, any ideas?

I wouldn't stop anywhere within 100 miles of Calais, there will be thousands of them in the area. We will be arriving and checking straight in to eurotunnel.

We've been going twice a year since 2014 and the migrant problem is MUCH worse now.

Have a look at Sangatte, nice aire by the grave yard. Stayed lots of times no problems
Thank you, we have used it before, after the "fall" of cite Europe, and it has been quiet, just wondered if it was still OK.

We stayed at Sangatte Jan last year en route to Spain. Discovered an immigrant in the garage next morning who’d entered whilst we and our dog slept.
Offered him a lift to Africa as our final destination was Maroc. He ran back down to the beach, heading towards Calais.

There is a small Aire at

Latitude
50.956497 | 50°57'23"N
Longitude
1.928283 | 1°55'41"E

Was very quiet, a bit middle of nowhere as far as the migrants are concerned.

Theres a big aire type parking with electric at Bruges which is an easy 80 mins to the north which I have used once coming back from Germany. Nice place to visit too

Nice little free aire at Esquelbecq, about an hours drive from the tunnel...

We found a very nice camp site about 7k from Calais. It’s small with all the facilities from 13€ per night. Would suggest booking as it gets full very quickly.

“Les Erables.” ( think that’s the spelling) N: 050.91196. E: 001.721461 the village is called Escales.

We've stayed there , too. Very nice location.👍

Bet you are all wondering where I have got to ;)
Yeah 100% gravelines, always our first and last Aire in France, never seen anything like an immigrant there.
Close to town bars and restaurants, there is even a brilliant new restaurant on the Aire now.(y)(y)(y)

Absolutely bang on! We’re the same, never stop anywhere near, just asking for trouble.

This one is alright for a night but dont park on grass if wet

There is an aire by the road side at 50.9975268N 2.0565311E. Route des Dunes, Oye Plage. Middle of nowhere with half the tarmac devoted to buses, the Western part is for Motorhomes. No facilities at all. You get the occasional vehicle past at night but it is so remote you are unlikely to be bothered. We have used it a few times. The is a good walking area in the dunes opposite which takes you through where there are small lakes and cattle and just wildness. We have been there when a couple of other outfits have happened upon it.
