I am on first name terms with some of mine too. Helped one out last week with a contact to get his van fixed. He was rather stressed that he couldn't find somebody that could sort it quick. I find if you are friendly and polite with them, it makes a huge difference and they remember you. Basically the same good relationship we had with the milkman/postie years ago

This time of year they work flat out and bare the brunt of customer's frustrations. They are only human and gestures like yours mean a lot

Our black lab goes apeshit at every delivery driver so I am not sure they want to linger at our front door.
