Hi all,

I’d be interested to hear suggestions from other Funsters about where to get the best deal on Brittany Ferries crossings, or ferry crossings in general. I‘m not a member of any of the plethora of caravan-club-type organisations...just this one! :giggle:

We‘d probably make most use of the Plymouth-Roscoff or Plymouth-Spain crossings, hence the Brittany Ferries reference. We’re in Devon so getting to Dover is not a joyous option. Plymouth is our local port.

I’ve heard that some organisations bulk-buy crossings and sell them on to members. Is that correct? If not, where does everyone get their deals?

Any expérience or advice appreciated.

Not that subject - having just endured the portsmouth the le harve cross - what’s the portsmouth to Bilbao crossing like - I am not the best on the water

If you didn't enjoy Portsmouth - Le Havre you'll hate Portsmouth - Bilbao.

You could join Brittany Ferries Club Voyage scheme but they have 2 separate schemes one for France and one for Spain.

The first year you pay a joining fee and every year there is an annual fee.

In the 1st year you just about break even if you use it once (from memory ) but if you use it more often of course there are further savings.

If you buy the French one you get the main saving of up to 30% on French crossings plus 10% off Spanish. If you have the Spanish membership you get up to 30% off Spanish crossings and I think 15% off French.

There are other savings for meals and cabins.

Be aware that Plymouth sailings aren’t all year round.

You can as a club voyage member offer your code to friends and family to use and their booking gives you a £10credit once a year against your account (up to a max of £150).

This is why so many of us rush in to offer our friends code as this can often offset the annual membership fee.

You can also apply the saving retrospectively if you have a crossing already booked when you join the Brittany Ferries Club Voyage scheme.

I bought our Spanish membership last year just before our trip to France in September. I emailed customer services and they applied the French saving off that booking and I've used the saving again when booking our Spanish trip for May/June this year.

I've only given out my code twice and although its a nice little bonus for me my membership has paid for itself with my own two crossings.
  • Savings of up to 30% on ferry travel to France or Spain
  • 10% reduction on meals and wine in our main restaurants
  • Free and half price day cabins*
  • Free breakfast when booking a cabin on overnight sailings*
  • Friends and family discount providing up to 10% savings
  • Valid for a whole 12 months from the month of joining
from the Brittany Ferries site.

The discounts are as Jenben says.

we have been members for many years, use the poole= cherebourg and plymouth=roscoff routes often. the membership fee has always been well worth it by savings on crossings(2 to 4 a year) plus free or half price cabins ,free breakfast or 10% discount and £10 for every friend using your number and they get 10% discount. no brainer. cheers hope this helps,

I cross Portsmouth to Caen (Ouisterham) and back at least 4 times a year. And being a club voyage member it saves me a fortune.. Nearly always get a free cabin on the day crossings, and good discount on food.

Why ?

That’s why.

We've used Brittany Ferries for all our journeys and have never found any way to get substantial reductions. Joining the Club Voyage is essential I think if you intend to travel more than once. You may break even the first year if you make only one return trip but subsequent crossings and subsequent years reap a saving - but they are still a lot more than the short crossings from the south east. Like you we are in Devon and almost all our crossings are from Plymouth. Recently we've gone to Roscoff but we've been to Santander, which is a great voyage if you are a good sailor - I'm not, which is why we go to Roscoff now!

Booking far ahead doesn't seem to get any noticeable reduction. Avoiding peak season and holidays and choosing the cheaper days is the only way to reduce the price. They are changing the tickets later this year and there will be three different sorts which will add further scope for stress when booking. :)

As I said the other day. I cross it 12 times a year. Not had a bad crossing since November 2018.

I’ve made many posts about how biscay can even be calm whilst all the other waters are stormy and rough.

It’s. Been bad the last few months but that’s winter for you.

I’ve had many tougher crossings in the north sea

I had a Funster 'Pull my Chain' today.
He was offered a code by me then queried the fact that my CF Code was a french one and he'd tried and failed to get a discount on the Spanish run.

I know the reason he didn't use my code and fair do's.
Just a shame he wasn't straight with me.

The codes used to work on both ?

I gave a Spanish one, no longer have a french one too as Spanish codes get 15% off french crossings for members

I think the friends and family discount is the same for both the French and Spanish schemes at up to 10%.

If you are a Spanish club voyage member and book a French ferry you can get up to 15% off your personal booking.

As I said, he was pulling my chain. I know that and I will remember it.
