Looking for a standby Sim or two to use over the water, Anyone seen any decent PAYG deals at the moment?

Looking into similar myself at the moment.

As mentioned above, Three and Smarty seem to be capping at 12GB fair usage whatever the size of the UK plan

GiffGaff (O2 network) seems include EU roaming capped at 20GB. I'm considering using a free GiffGaff sim and a 25GB topup, disabling the recurring plan after 2 weeks once I'm back.

Voxi (Vodafone) also seem to be capping at 20GB.

Why not buy one when you get over the water.

What is the roaming data limit please
Unlimited in the EU using it now in Spain. Network in the UK is 3. So I am unable to use it when at home as no signal, it's a crazy world.

Just looked at the super drug sim details. I openly states all your UK data and call can be used in the EU.
Worth a punt when the time comes.

What is the roaming data limit please
Hi, the superdrug sim uses three network. I used it from oct 31 2020 until mar 10th 2021 in Spain using a mifi and firestick to watch lots of footie and tv without any problems or notifications of over-use . i did however get limit notification from vodafone for my mobile which i hardly used as i used the mifi in the van all the time. hope this helps.

Cheers Cris.

When you first purchase the Superdrug sim it needs to be activated in the UK, subsequent renewals can be carried out abroad even if the sim has been unused for a few months.

Confirmed. My Voxi SIM stopped providing roaming data at exactly 20GB last week in France. The remainder of the allowance kicked back in again yesterday as soon as we drove off the Eurotunnel.

Now trying to work out what best to do for the 9 month trip we have planned for 2022.

My wife is on Giff Gaff and after about 6 weeks in France she received a Text from them informing her that in a further 2 weeks time (so after a total of 2 month roaming), then any usage would be charged at the prevailing rates.

It's beginning to look like local SIM cards will be the only reasonable route to take.

My superdrug unlimited £20/month was suspended after a couple of months use in Portugal, they said it was referred to the fraud department. I suspended payment and have heard nothing since
Currently using Vodafone PAYG big deal packages which at the moment seem to be unaffected by roaming restrictions.

ASDA Mobile unlimited data from £20 or £30 unrestricted speed. I have one in my mifi, used it at the weekend and all good, its on the Vodafone network so fairly good coverage.

I also read that page today , from there I contacted superdrug mobile via their chat line, so as to clarify in writing the EU data usage policy . Agent stated quite clearly that data was unlimited while in EU , with no caps on data usage ,,,,,, when on the unlimited plan .

Im actually getting to the point that we will simply buy a local sim when we eventually get over to Europe , in our case hopefully Portugal , where we will just buy a , eg , NOS sim , as recommended by members on here . Save all the bother of having to decipher UK mobile supplier T&Cs
.

Were you using a uk card to pay for the sim? As this could have flagged up a discrepancy.
I have never had any problems and the only place I can use it is abroad as there is no three signal where I live in the UK.

Yes, UK card, never found out the reason.
I am in the UK at the moment so might try and restart it.

Not according to this, but I know in the FAQ's it has a limit.
