Looking for advice and experience.
I am now considering a chassis mounted scooter rack.
I have done the sums and weighed the van and I have 700 kg or so left on the rear axle and 950kg on total payload.
I want to carry a 160 to 170 kg scooter.
I know Armitage can help me. Have any of you had a chassis mounted rack from them or is there another firm that can carry that weight of scooter?

Vic

Sorry, bit of self interest here. Take a look at the Easy Lifter that sits on the tow bar. Can carry up to 200kgs and needless to say I have one for sale. Take a look at the general classified ads for info and picture.
Even if you are not interested give me a shout as I spent a lot of tme investigating them. Kev.

Thank you. I have seen your post, but my tow bar (post 2012) has a down weight of 100kg. Otherwise I would be on my way to collect your rack. its a good price.

If you only have a down weight of 100kgs then the only way to take a bike of that weight is some type of trailer.

Nope. The towbar will be removed and a chassis mounted rack needs to be fitted.

Are you sure armatige will help?
When I asked them 2 years ago for a detachable rack for our Moho, they were adamant that I had to have towbar and then a carrier mounted on that.
Hence, towing a frames @ chesterfield got the job.

Have you got decent chassis rails to fix it to, some vans have next to sweet FA and I have seen tow bars fastened to garage floors:LOL:

Martin, yes the chassis is an Alko so it should be ok, up to 200kgs anyway.

We had ours uprated by the farmer where we're staying. Took the bar off and strengthened it all up them put an Armitage rack on it.

You can't beat farm engineering if you want heavy duty.

I too have recently investigated options on chassis mounted scooter racks. During my research I came across a company in Bristol known as LNBleisure. They were able to offer a suitable rack as well as offering chassis rails as mine would need to be strengthened. Just make sure you're sat down when you obtain a quote;)

Watling engineers at St Albans fitted our chassis rack £850+vat. Done a good job, all in one day.

Road pro do the identical rack to LNB It is a Memo Classic and has a locking wheel chock which holds the bike while you strap it. I asked LNB why there rack was 600pounds dearer that Road Pro They declined to comment. Unfortunately Road Pro have not sold any such racks But I have been in direct contact with Memo Europe based Netherlands, who answered my questions. Their chassis receivers will bolt directly onto the Alko Chassis provided that you have no tow bar fitted. I have a Factory Fit Sawiko but the receivers will be too wide for the standard rack.
I have a Watling tow bar rack which I am now looking to convert to fit to fabricated receivers.

Futher to my last I now have it confirmed that the Memo and Sawiko chassis mounts will fit directly onto the Alko /Sawiko tow bar Chassis mounts , I am going for the Memo Classic. Armitage wanted to change my tow bar and fit theirs, but my Swan neck will accept the rack without modification.

I have had two towbar and one rack off Armitage and they are very well made the reason they want to fit their towbar is the fact that the support bar fits to it. I have seen some racks made with no support bar and the scooter is not strongly supported. The upright bar fits the support arm which goes over the seat.
The rack is removable from the square metal towbar channels.

Further to the last re the Memo M Classic Rack This is available from Total 01782333422 Contact Josh. If you are prepared to fit the receivers yourself they will get it delivered direct to you at a cost of 875.00 stg . Be sure that it will fit your Alko Chassis before you order.
Tag Axle Alko Chassis are OK re the load.
