Can anyone recommend a company in UK who can supply & fit a chassis mounted bike carrier for 2 e-bikes with a combined weight of say 50kgs.
My van is a 2006 Rapido 7099f on a Fiat base vehicle on AL-KO chassis.
Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks George

i think ( happy to told different) that the only way of carrying bikes from the chassis is to add a tow bar and then add a bike carrier to that.
like the THULE easyfold XT carrier.

Hi Lunarman - thanks for reply. There doesn't seem to be many chassis carriers around but LNB seems promising also have contacted AL-KO. George

Watling Engineers at St Albans installed mine, I think it's called a Pendle or similar.

Thanks Bailey 58 but I haven't a tow bar to fit the carrier to. Trying to keep the weight down by avoiding a tow bar type fitting. Thanks again. George

The problem seems to be that the chassis stops well before the back of the moho. Ours is over six feet long.

Things to consider.
1. Anything attached at the back of the van, becomes heavier the further it is from the axle.
2. I have heard of several people having bikes "borrowed" from bike racks.
3. Rapido's used to have a fairly limited payload, perhaps yours is Ok!

Hi Badknee have had a look underneath van & the chassis comes a long way back so hopefully with extensions etc shouldn’t be a problem ? Anyway have sent photos to both LNB & AL-KO along with AL-KO identification plate so waiting to hear back.
Just need to find a selection of fitters of chassis mounted bike carriers which don’t use tow bar attachments. Will get there. Thanks George

Hi Rosalan - have thought about the rear end weight issues - we already carry 2 small e-bikes on the back but is too high for our intended bike upgrade so when we remove the existing rack & add on a few kgs. for the slightly heavier bikes the weight difference depends mainly on the weight of the new carrier. As I understand it the tow bar plus a carrier is heavier than a custom chassis mounted bike carrier hence my search for installers so I can confirm weights etc. Last year I did uprate the vans gross weight from 3500 Kgs. to 3950 Kgs. so the overall weight shouldn’t be a problem. I wouldn’t dream of lending our new bikes to anyone but if someone did borrow them they would need a couple of very expensive batteries & in the meantime they would have quite a workout pedalling without assistance but thanks for the thought but it’s always a risk unfortunately. Thanks again George.

A bit far from you down there, but I had a custom made chassis bike rack made by Mick Parkinson near Preston in Lancashire. It carries 2 x E Bikes . Excellent job by a highly qualified engineer.

Thanks Kelsae2 - as you say quite a distance but I will look into it & contact Mick Parkinson. All the best George

If like my rapido 7065ff plated at 3850kg you will have issues with over loading your back axle. I wanted 2 ebikes on the back but doing the maths i could not get the rear axle legal so i ended up changing the van

Have a look at Sawiko bike carriers. Don't have any direct experience, but they seem to be designed for Alko chassis without the need for a towbar. We'll be checking them out when (if!) we change our MH.

I have a sawiko carrier that was mounted to my alko maxi chassis
Which was more substantial than any towbar mounted carrier I think mine carried 150kg
I used to have a Yamaha vity which was 108kg

The one are looking at is the Velo III - according to the spec it only weighs 16kg which even if you have to add chassis extension rails is still much lighter than a towbar setup so should be good for MHs with payload issues. The details say it can carry upto 80kg which is plenty for 2 ebikes.

Have a look at ARMITAGES website they have chassis mounted bike racks ,
fitted my towbar very professional.
They're based in Yorkshire along way from you but it's a great excuse to visit God's own country. ?

I forgot to add that the rack Mick fitted is also detachable. As part of the fitting he added a towball for not much money extra, including electrics. Did not need it but thought it might come in handy.
Charlie.

We had our Sawiko rack fitted by SAP in Doncaster. It is fitted to the chassis, no tow bar is required, and it folds up when not needed

Thanks again Charlie (Kelsae2) Found Mick's website & will definitely contact Him.
George

Thanks DangerMousy Velo 111 seems to keep popping up. Have made inquiries with AL-KO about this carrier. Awaiting their reply (dread the cost). Thanks again George.

Thanks Lanerboy I think I have the maths right on this - there again I left school at fifteen & a bit so hope I got it right. Thanks George

Thanks carthorse will contact Armatage - found their website. My good lady wife is from God's Own Country so she may well bring me there. Thanks George

Thanks Leltel awaiting more information about the Velo111. Was this what you had fitted - if so may I ask what it cost. Don't worry if you don't want to divulge this. All the best George.

Memo do a variety of chassis mounted”quickness release” bike and Scooter Carriers. Cheaper than Sawiko and if you have an ALKO Chassis the receivers will bolt straight into the chassis.

We needed a 3 bike carrier and couldn’t find a UK supplier so went to Holland as part of our holiday and had one fitted by Busbiker.
