Hi
I have an imported German van with European plug sockets. In order to charge a toothbrush I currently have a Euro to UK convertor plug, connected to a UK Shaver plug into which the toothbrush (UK sourced) is plugged. It looks pretty ugly:

Does anyone know if I purchase a rechargeable toothbrush in Europe e.g. French supermarket whether I can plug it directly into the socket? I haven't seen shaver plugs over there so I'm wondering if they don't have them and perhaps the plug on the end of their rechargeable toothbrushes is just a standard European plug?

I would buy one once away somewhere then you can keep it in the van. I am pretty sure that it will be a standard european plug.
I have done this with hairdryers, one bought in Germany and one in Spain. I just keep them in the van and in my case, without an inverter, use them in shower block sockets, saves all that hassle with adapters.

Sometimes the two pin shaver plug will simply plug into the euro socket. I’ve certainly had occasions when that’s worked. If not, I’d do as suggested above and just stick a different plug on the cable. I’ve also purchased a 12v USB charger of Amazon that works ok with a Braun toothbrush.

Thanks, yes that's what I would normally do with other appliances, just wasn't sure if the concept of shaver plugs existed in Europe and whether I'd need one of those in between anyway.

Can't you simply plug the existing shaver plug directly into the Euro socket? Why do you need the adaptors?

Thanks but no USB sockets in the bathroom and and all the sockets are wired to an inverter so prefer to keep it charging in the bathroom if possible.
Simply buy a new toothbrush that charges from a USB socket and keep it in the mh. Ours cost about £25 each and a charge lasts over a month.

I don't understand why is it important to charge it in the bathroom.

I did think of trying that but it's a UK two pin shaver based charging base not a European one so I didn't know if it was safe to just plug it into a European socket. I don't know whether the charging bases sold in Europe are different to the UK ones, hence my question.

No they are not, but as I said above, take advantage of the modern technology.

This adaptor should do it in one - and at the price worth a punt.

Thanks that looks like a neat solution.

A standard travel adapter should replace both the adapters you are using. This is an old one, as you can see by the yellowing, but it works fine.
Thanks, I think I may even have one of those. I didn't realise you could plug a two pin shaver plug straight into them.

You can see on the image I posted the problem trying to get the toothbrush plug into the socket. The pins are thicker and slightly closer together. Unless you have a socket like Alan posted it won't fit without risk of breaking something. :)

Yes thanks that image is useful in making it clear the plugs are different.
