Just a heads up, just received an email from GOV.UK regarding the industrial disruption next week in France. There is planned action on the 9 January regarding ports and reduced Eurostar services.

All supplements listed on the above page, campers / motorhomes £12 each way. Mike

Just to clear things up FT prices.

£46 per car plus £12 (off peak) per MH. ANY SIZE

Minimum. crossing you can buy is 10 (= 5 returns).

You pay £460 up front plus the £12 each way which you pay when booking.

The deal lasts for twelve months

So, as Colyboy says, you only pay the extra £12 when you book a crossing with the motorhome.

So, if it's of any help - you can use some crossings with a car = nothing extra to pay; take the van and just add the £12 each way.

Absolute bargain!

A week on french Aires saves enough in site fees to pay for the tunnel.

FT is well worth buying we found that using it only five single times we saved money.???

You are allowed up to two named people (“partners”) to use it. So if you’re not going to use 10 crossings yourself you could share them with someone else. Both have to be registered on the site.
We shared with someone last year who used 6 crossings and we used 4. This year we’ve agreed to share 5 and 5 with someone else because both of us really want 4 but it’s far cheaper paying for an extra one you won’t use this way than 4 “normal” crossings.

We share and each pay half up front. Then we see how it goes. Last year I bought one trip back as partner didn’t use it. This year we will use 5 each. This year we will be “stuck” in France without the return crossing, but will only start next years when we come back thus extending the next years by a week or two. It’s the only bargain beyond french aires we have discovered while doing this lark. ?

Investigate shopping at Tesco, and go for free (y) :giggle:

A Tesco shop for me is noticeably more expense than a lidl shop. You pay for those points ?

Also with Frequent traveller if you take a trailer ( we sometimes take a Car on an AFrame) you pay an extra £46 for that, so still a bargain.

The advantage for me concerning FT is it's flexibility. Book online 24 hours before travel or change booking. No need to book a return cos that can be done online 24 hours before you arrive in Calais.

Previously done Tesco vouchers but you need to book a return.

I know this has been done to death , but for any travel insurance to be valid, you also need to have a return booked

Provided travel is at off-peak times, Frequent Traveller account holders can travel 365 days of the year for the same fixed price. So we've been through on August and Bank Holiday weekends without any extra charges, which is a bit of a bargain.

And the flexibility is great - you can keep changing your dates and times as often as you want up to 24 hours before travel at no extra charge.

If you make two or three trips to the continent a year and can share the account with somebody else in a similar position, or if you can use 5 returns in 12 months, it's a no-brainer!

So it's & £58 for a MH each way or 46 for a car. Sounds like a good deal. And a dog is £18 extra?

How do the prices compare to normal single ones then?

Ordinarily, I'd say they are much cheaper, or VERY much cheaper, especially if you want to travel at a busy time of year or book at short notice.

Just have a look on the website and check the normal fares.

Perhaps, if you want to cross at 3am in the morning, in the middle of January, then the cost saving may not be so significant - but I haven't checked - nor would it be my preferred travel time! ;) (y)

On my travel insurance that only applies to Annual Multi Trip Policies.
We always book single trip cover.?

when I’ve checked before, the Motorhome would be around £100 and if towing it would be £200 so a fair bit cheaper.
youve got to pay the ripoff £18 for the dog which ever way you do it ( of cause that’s it you’ve got a dog :giggle:)

We shop at Lidl/Aldi too. However, they do not sell everything we need and we get the remainder from Tesco, earning points. Furthermore, Lidl do not sell fuel! Buying fuel from Tesco earns more points.

If you have a Tesco credit card, you earn more points, wherever you choose to use it, i.e. Asda, Morrisons, buying insurance, holidays, vehicle service, etc., etc.

We get about 2 Eurotunnel crossings per year thanks to Tesco!

We tend to shop similarly, but as we use the tunnel regularly we use the frequent traveler, preferring to use the tesco vouchers for meals out etc.

We have used the FT for a few years, saving us a fortune. The only downside is that frequent traveller places on each shuttle are limited. Last summer I tried to get a last minute crossing and there were no FT places left. I could book a standard fare crossing ( one way) for £120 though!
Luckily, there were a few cancellations later in the week and I got an FT place.

We tend to save our Tesco vouchers and let the value build up. They last for 2 years so no need to rush to spend them. Then, when we book a Eurotunnel crossing, we exchange just enough of the oldest vouchers for Eurotunnel tokens. The best thing is that if the crossing amounts to say £210, you only have to exchange £70 worth of Tesco vouchers because the value of the vouchers is multiplied be 3 at the point of exchange for the tokens. Win, win and WIN!

When using tesco vouchers, what happens if you need to amend your return crossing date.

Do you have to phone the Tesco hotline or can you change it online using the eurotunnel website ?

We have changed our return crossing on 2 occasions in the past and have done so by calling Eurotunnel reservations. If you do change the return date of travel, you have to pay the difference between the amount paid at the original time of booking and the price on the new day of travel. If memory serves me correctly we were charged around £5 on each occasion.

Once you have booked your crossing you are in the hands of Eurotunnel and not Tesco.
