Hi all
Quick couple of questions
I am changing the two leisure batteries in the van now
1)i am assuming that it is disconnect the two negatives first and then the two positives last and the reverse to connect.
2)should i disconnect the vehicle battery while i am doing it.
3)does my EBL99 electroblok need to be disconnected and if so how.

Be aware that some dash radios / media units are connected to the leisure batteries make sure you have the codes to enter when you reconnect or fit a temporary alternative 12v supply.

If its got an ebl then quite likely to have 2 fuses connected to leisure battery. One 50 amp , maybe smaller, for main connection to ebl, the other small 2amp ish to allow ebl to read battery voltage . Removing those will isolate leisure battery.
Check if solar is fitted. If so cover panels or disconnect feed from panel to solar controller first. Some solar controllers are not happy without battery connection if solar still connected.
If you have other bits like b2b charger connected direct to battery you will have to isolate them as well.

Or simply clip your charger on to the batteries then switch it on. The batteries already cope with three different sources of charging current: the EBL, the panels, and the vehicle alternator. Adding another one will not affect anything unless it happens to be a 'starter / charger' that boils the batteries if left connected for more than a few minutes. If it is a smart charger or a trickle charger there is no point in disconnecting anything.

First turn the ebl off, this is a small switch on the panel,
Make sure not on hook up.
Cover solar panels if fitted or isolate fuse if fitted.
Disconnect negatives first then positive.

Fit new batteries positive first
Then negative.
Switch ebl back on.
Reconnect solar if fitted.
John.

I find this very informative. Previously, in ignorance no doubt, I just disconnected the batteries and replaced them. No fuses seemed to blow. I was much more concerned about the weight of the seats I had to remove to get at the batteries.
So thanks everybody.

Thanks all
Job done
The poles on the new batteries were on the opposite sides which made it trickier.
Also figured out that the drain tube can be moved as well from one side of the battery to another
