Help please

Due to my imminent retirement I am moving my vehicle insurance off my company fleet policy to private policy, trouble is MH which has been quite happily insured with Aviva on a fleet policy, needs a Cat 1 alarm to be insured on its own policy, still with Aviva

If no alarm fitted I will have zero cover for theft from next Wednesday

So, what alarm and where to get one fitted ideally close to Derbyshire by next week? :)

Good news is, premium is dropping from £1159 on fleet to £616, never really looked at prices up to now, this retirement is going to save me a fortune :D

wow David, that's an expensive premium even for your van... Have you tried safeguard? al;so include breakdown...,,,

Dave Newall does alarm's fitted one to my last van, he is in Telford.
Obviously the Vanbitz does one down in somerset but not sure if he has intalers fitting his stuff more localy to you? or of course just send a picture of LOLA to your insurers and tell them its a Cat approved alarm, No Cat's will get in ;-)

both members of fun btw

That is expensive, we're with Aviva, originally through Comfort but now AIB, we pay about £325 if I remember right and that includes full European breakdown.

Hi doesn't Phil from Rhino Installs do it? He's up North somewhere. They didn't give you a choice of Tracker or Alarm? Might be quicker to get a Tracker fitted. I'm with Safeguard and that was the option given. I went the whole hog and did both!!

Jen says try Saga you old bugger, they were not bothered about alarm on ours but may not be keen on value over £50k, we pay just over £400 with recovery included.

What this about retirement, have you seen the light.

Still trying to ignore all approaches from Saga :D

Problem we have is the value, not really sure what it is worth so have called it £60K, they are a rare beast, we paid £70K, but saw one at Edgehill RHD basically our spec but an 830 for £90K

it is the value that is forcing the alarm, but will be paid for from saving and I can still recover the VAT before I retire

and yes have seen the light, now being a grand dad decided time was just about right, not too sure how to pay for it yet, but with savings like this just had car quoted at £289 instead of £898 on fleet, I will soon be rich :)

Is not Ash up that part of the world?

But would recommend Dave at Telford. Did a cracking job on my air suspension. :xThumb:

I was given choice of alarm or tracker, had tracker before on other cars not keen on the on costs

It seems as though going over £60K in value causes panic in the insurance field, they don't seem to recognise that I drive it a lot more carefully because of its value :D

Hoping to get alarm done a bit more locally if possible, but Vanbitz is in Scotland when we are in January, might risk it till then if he can work while on holiday :)

As for Lola, she loves cats :xgrin:

Edit - due to insurance oddities (read rip off) I cant transfer any no claims from my fleet policy to private, despite being accident and claim free for 20 years with same insurer (Aviva), who are still the cheapest price for the MH, with an introductory discount bonus

Our insurance wanted a tracker fitted and the fact we were getting one fitted was enough to get the insurance straight away as it was on record that we said we were getting one fitted within the month gave us a bit more time. Also our tracker was a one of payment for life or all the time we own the camper so no ongoing yearly costs.

That is a good option, and just thinking it through, with a Tracker you cant forget to set it and leave a massive loop hole for the insurers to jump out of :xThumb:

If you try Safeguard, laugh at any first quote they give you..
Called the, today and they quoted me £490....... Within seconds they could somehow do all the same for £299..!!!!
Not impressed they tried to con me :(

Hi again, my value as yours so alarm or tracker. I bought a tracker from trackerfit.co.uk. with life of ownership so no ongoing cost. I retired 12 years ago so all these savings are adding up! I wish!

Now you are retired ( nearly) you will wonder how you ever found time to work, you will be SO busy all the time !!! It is Fabulous !!!

We went with safeguard because they would insure us with tracker alone. Got the German waico alarm but that's not recognised . Think a tracker more useful than an alarm anyway. Good local guy who will come to you but not at home at mo to give you details.

Just had an email back to say Cat 1 alarm is a must, Tracker is an optional extra but no more discount, so alarm it must be :xThumb:

Wont bother with the extra cost of Tracker, not sure I really want it back if it ever goes out of my sight

Hi.
Try Automate Newark,first class chaps.

just reading through some of the adds alarm company's have and some use wireless sensors I am almost sure @eddievanbitz told me once that cat 1 does not allow wireless sensors?

Hi.
Try Automate Newark,first class chaps.
Thats jogged my ageing memory ........That's who we used for tracker . Very good ! Reasonable too.

We are with Aviva albeit indirectly through a broker (the Insurance Factory) I made a point of confirming that it did NOT have a cat1 alarm or tracker. No probs I was told.

It seems to be purely down to value, over £50K they insist on CAT 1 alarm, I cant even use Tracker as an alternative :xThumb:

Dave, have an Autowatch fitted to mine and it was fitted by Autosound of Barnsley don't know if it's any use to you but it seems to work OK.

Give Keith (AutoArm) a ring on Mansfield (01623) 555933 or 07710138438 – he should be able to fit an alarm for you at your house.

Also Dave Shaw who has a mobile outfit at Tibshelf 07918121085 - Chatsworth Motorhome and Caravan Servicing.

Both know what they're doing but may be busy.

David, ours insured for 55k (hymer S class). Try via a broker
