Probably apply to other models as well.

Just wondered if anyone else had noticed that if you order the auto box on 3.5t chassis it comes on the maxi chassis.

Also found out today Fiat are discontinuing the 160 engine there will only be the 140 & 180 avaliable.

Don't tell me you've finally been let loose to do some pre-purchase research? :giggle:

Yes that has been mentioned in threads before so usefull confirmation. My 160 is still according to the dealer is still showing the 160 as ordered which in reality means very little. If it morphs into the into the PSA 165 I could live with that. If it becomes the 140 I would expect a refund. If the 180 we might have to haggle any increase in price over a breach of contract!

Having just had a gander at the Carthago website, I am Really surprised that the 2023 Compact Line range does not seem to offer both the Fiat and The Merc engine options....its Fiat powered Only.
But, Go one size/level up to The C Tourer and you have both options, Fiat or Merc.
The reviewers all seem to love The Merc powered Carthago's over and above the Fiat, but for the extra dosh involved, there is no great surprise there.
I get envious sat in traffic with a Tesco, Sainsbury, or Ocado delivery van next to me, funny how there doesn't seem to be any shortage of cabs for conversion to supermarket vans these days.:whistle2:

You must be psychic Les they haven't released any 2023 info yet.

With our 150 the brakes were superb, but with our 130 the brakes are not nearly as good, is that the same with the 160 and 140 ?

Were they on different chassis?

Our first van was on a 130 the brakes were OK, last van was 150 brakes were much better both on light chassis. Current van is a 150 on the Maxi chassis brakes are even better.

I suspect that with the heavy chassis you have larger wheels therefore you could have larger discs ?

Stupid question alert!, How can you tell the difference in the chassis from light to heavy? Tia.

Personally would always go for the maxi chassis if available.
The bigger brakes for starters
Easy job to up plate if weight is an issue
As ever there are other factors that impact on peoples choices
main one at present being getting your hands on any

Sorry I didn't phrase the original post very well and make myself clear (a bit achy had Covid the last few days).

Really want to know if anyone agrees with me that when you look at the options price list it appears the Auto box only comes with the Maxi chassis.
Looks like to me you could get ripped off a couple of grand if you ordered the Maxi and Auto & if I'm correct you could order the Auto on a 3500kg and just get it uprated.

From the price list:

On the light chassis the Auto box is 40 kg heavier the exact weight difference of the Maxix chassis.

I've just had a bit more info about engines it's only on RHD that the 160 is being discontinued, so I'll still be able to get a 160 if I want one.

We have 2020 140bhp 6.4m Boxer on the heavy chassis. Fully loaded we are approx 3650kg. The brakes are awesome on this van. Factory fit are 16 inch wheels with twin cylinder Brembo callipers and discs on the front axle. Brakes feel really good.

We have a RHD c tourer on the fiat chassis on order. Still showing as 160hp. With hindsight I would have gone for the Merc chassis but it is 6 inches longer than the fiat A class and we were pushing it length wise as it is. Will wait and see what turns up but expect some argument at some time.
