Well here I am again, posted the other day about downsizing due to semi retirement imminent, spoken to Hymer dealers today, most saying nothing until 2023 for new orders Travelworld have said they have slots but can’t commit to prices due to current climate.
Anyhow this caught my eye as it’s on the heavier chassis and MAN 4.2 tiptronic engine, obviously the windows need changed or plastic film removed, couldn’t get much further away from us either😩
A few Questions though
in the current climate is it fairly priced?
Anybody any info about the older Concordes problems encountered etc?
The MAN engine gets pretty decent reviews, any one driven one work wise or in a m home?

It’s at 4front m/homes, I know they are from car
dealer background in the main.
my misses is ready to divorce me as I can’t stop looking at the bigger m homes😂 HELP!

<Broken link removed>

Listen to your wife go smaller.

We have a 2005 Concorde, quality van but they all have their problems. After 2006 the quality went down when the enormous new factory was opened to meet huge increased demand.

Things to watch for of that era.
Double glazed glass cab side windows blown, very expensive to replace.
Watch for delamination of locker doors, expensive to replace. Use a straight edge to check trueness, check for water in lockers, use a watering can on the outside.
Electrical problems on the habitation side, thoroughly check everything.
Check electric front blind runs smoothly.
Check date of tyres 6 of them quite expensive.
Check habitation door, they are prone to the keypad failing.
Check the roof for damage and the sealing tape front and rear is good.

Then all the usual motothome checks.

What are you waiting for? If its a good as it looks then I would have been very tempted decent spec as well.

I drove two MAN chassied Charisma's from this period year before last at Polch. The one we went to see had the 240hp with 12 speed auto and was a very impressive drive but the interior was knocked about too much, having said that it was gone within 2 weeks - from memory 120k euros 2010 ( forget mileage its really doesnt matter with MAN)

They also had a 2009 840R with the 4 cylinder 205hp 6 speed which was in very nice condition. This was not as spritely as the 6 cylinder but actually much better than I expected and a really nice drive. ( note just make sure it is not the 179 version but this is very unlikely) This was a lovely motorhome and very well looked after but the spec was a bit too basic.

ours is on the earlier L2000 chassis with the 6.8, 6 cylinder 220hp. You wouldnt call any of them fast but they are a lot more robust and torque figures are much higher so if you set it at 60/65 mph whatever - it will take a big hill to slow you down. Ive attached a link to the brochure below, if you have a look at the spec even the 4 cylinder version has over twice the NM of the daily version.

Ive got 2 negative comments:

1, its a RHD which could be an advantage over here if you find somebody who wants one but most of these are LHD because the biggest market is Germany so it limits your market a little should you want to sell.

2, again personal choice but I think bar versions are more popular.

But yes if we were looking we would be very tempted, decent motor fair price.

Thanks again jongood really useful info I’ve seen a 12speed for sale somewhere, I think on mobile de, but I seem to have looked at so many I’m losing track 😂 although looking at prices in Germany it seems quite a lot are more expensive than over here currently, I’ll have a mooch at the brochure when I can get 5 mins, I’m sure lots of questions may follow, 👍

No worries with the questions.

I may have given the wrong impression - I was pleasantly surprised by the 4 cylinder and although the 240hp was obviously better I wouldnt let it put me off. You would be very lucky to find a 240hp they are super rare. I recently drove a freinds Clou Liner originally a 179hp which he swapped out for a later 220hp 4 cylinder ( confusing I know) although it was only low speed around a showground it certainly felt like it would be responsive and was nice an quiet.

So touched base this morning, asked some pertinent questions, he’s getting back to me! This is the bit I hate, waiting for sales people to get back, how long before you phone back and ask “did you get me any answers “?
Are you even bothered, do you understand what/why I was asking?
Never want to sound desperate, just want answers so I can plan the next move😁

How far from you is it located, a viewing is essential as you know. It’s very poor if they don’t get back quickly but in today’s market they can pick and choose?

Good luck, have you told the wife yet?

Wife actually likes the vehicle 🙏 we are in NW Cumbria so really need to understand that everything works, or what doesn’t im told about, I can then make that decision to travel down, or maybe put a shout out on here for some help if anyone is close by to give it a once over looking as you say at the possible expensive repairs, incentive given 🍺🍺

I’m not expecting perfection as it’s Twelve year old but you know if it’s been cared for, or the obvious air fresheners are dotted everywhere, the past two m homes I’ve ended being pretty hands on.
Just don’t want to waste Two days of travelling for nowt, I’ll give them another ring later to see if they’ve actually bothered to look at the tyre dates for me and attempted to get some images of the roof, check to see if it has the double glazed units at the front😩
The rear windows will obviously need sorted as not my cup of tea🐶🐶

Might this explain the air fresheners😏

It will certainly have the double glazed glass units and if they are original then at the end of their life probably at about 13 years.

I was hopeful these are are repairable rather than having to replace, but agree everything needs to be considered👍

They re probably struggling with tyre dates, as the inners would be hard to see. Personally I'm relaxed about a few years on the tyres because they re truck tyres, or is it now part of the MOT? Ive never noticed my guy checking, I'm not totally sure but as long as they re legal and not cracked he seems happy. You could ask the vendor to take some photos of the front windows and get them on a touchscreen and zoom in, if you can see sweat then you know they re on the way.

The doggy smell can be tough to get rid of.

Ok so bit of an update:
Different guy phoned me back and answered as many questions as he could, two front tyres are new and he would get the mechanics to check the rears.
Definitely double glazing in the front as cazpaul said, last owner didn’t have ownership v long, alarm bells started ringing, the guy had mis measured where he was storing it at so ended up returning it.
I’ve checked the mots and it had a few advisories on the last one, tyres being one replaced, and rear drag link end ball joint has slight play being another, not sure cost to replace/fix, I’ve asked if he could check to see if it s been done.
I’ve got a video walk around tomorrow and he’s stated will take me to any area he thinks I would be interested due to any W and tear.
So in light of this, what’s going to be a good list to walk through with him to give me the confidence to travel down or not? And to be fair he’s stated it is slightly dated inside which I’m aware of and willing to update myself, what showstoppers will I be able to find using live video?

Its a shame you can't video smell but heyho. The 890 has quite along overhang, tall as well a good 200mm taller than the daily version so I would have a look for damage to the rear corners, and there is something about the seal at the top rear needing regular checks but I can't remember what - maybe CazPaul can help. But I would get him to poke in the corners, open up the fridge ( looks a bit skanky on pics), open some cupboards have a bit of a close up on the kitchen etc will give you some idea of the usage. The leather looks really good in the pics which is a good sign.

I would also check the genny is working as they are expensive to repair and could be a bargaining point.

Fridge, totally agree,
looking at the construction method of the body and roof caps I’m hoping for few issues, but a lot depends on sealant application and durability, forgot about the genny, 👍 will add to list but have already produced a significant list to look at, just realised what I thought were PIRs actually look like lights in the garage.

I would be surprised if you found any major issues with the body but there was an issue with mirror mountings on some earlier models, I think funflair has seen it, martin?

The sealing tape front and rear on the roof is an easy fix, it is aluminium inside and out so should be no problems with bodywork. Check the door in the garage and lockers as I said, for delamination.

The mirror mountings were a an issue on a few and an extremely expensive fix as it involved replacing a section of the body too, as was the GRP rear wall, they had a bad batch one year and they cracked in places but that was 2011 I think so you should be ok there.
Ours is an aluminium rear panel as it’s a Concerto so the base model at the time. I have to say though the general construction is wonderful it feels like it’s been put together like a little tank, all solid.

My main checks would be all doors are true and not leaking, electrics, front blind, leaks from skylights and windows, underneath should be sound as great construction there.

Construction method of our 2005 model but it hasn’t changed .

Yes apparently they mounted a block of wood in the side wall to take the mirror arm mounts but Guess what? yep it went rotten, saying that though I think it was all sorted by 2008, I was interested in a 2012 model for sale in Germany and I contacted the factory giving them some details and I got a reply back from Patrick their QC manager, I tried to find the email but I must have had a clear out but from memory the only other thing he mentioned was that there was a time when the diffs could be noisy but that would come to light on a test drive anyway.

Just have a feel around the mirrors area make sure the area is solid, they now use aluminium blocks instead of wood to support the mirrors.
I know someone who had a problem with his 2006 model needing an expensive repair because of it but not sure what years were affected
Ours was built beginning of 2004 and no problem.
