I have just been caught out by arriving at Wirral Country Park Caravan Club site at the usual check-in time of 12 noon. Except it has now changed to 1pm.

The warden says this is being rolled out across all the sites in the near future.

(Please don’t turn this into a ‘we hate the caravan club/UK/sites in general’ thread. Some of us are actually happy with what they offer!)

Hebden Bridge CAMC site is still 12pm arrivals. No toilet block to clean which may explain the earlier arrival time.

Most of the french sites have a 14:00 check in, but then they do have 2 hours for lunch🤣

Rowntree York and quite a few others have been 1pm for a while now.

This is OK except . . . . . . . . . . . .

I don't like to drive very far between stop. Although the journey is part of the holiday I have the time (retired) I try to limit the daily travel to less than 100 miles and then tend to stay for 3 or 4 nights to 'do' the area. This can be difficult when sites with an early departure time (1000 in some cases) have a good road to the next site with an arrival time of 1300 or later. I have sometimes had to find somewhere to park up to avoid upsetting the wardens.

Yes, same here! Looks like chucking-out time is still going to be 12 o’clock so an hour to kill between sites.

We are normally early and they have always checked us in without and issues.
Same as if we want to leave a bit later they will try to help.
Each site seem to have there own take on this.

Here the queue of vans similarly caught out and trying to get in was up the road but there was no budging on letting people in. In fact, the warden said that he’d had instructions to start turning people away so they don’t clog the road up.

Tis a two edged sword!

What time do you want to leave your pitch by?

Do you expect it to be trimmed clean and ready for you (ditto toilets, showers, etc etc)

Wardens are assumed to be human and need feed & rest (lunch time?)

So something has to give to fit expectations.

Just saying is all.

Often we also limit travel distances and would like to arrive before 12:00. Which is where a courteous call to the site to enquire if possible can pay dividends, often depends on availability and the right approach.

We like to take in a National Trust place if any issues with arrival times.

Basically down to what suits you and how you cope with planning a timed arival.

We were caught out at Bridlington like that. Now check before planning timings

Newish member here. When we book we’re asked to give an eta.
I thought the earliest eta was 13.00 or even 14.00? Maybe because we’re new.
I guess it’s to avoid meeting the late(r) leavers leaving down those narrow lanes?

It’s always been arrive/leave by 12 noon. The C&CC has always been arrive after 1pm and leave by 12 noon. They will now be the same so no biggy.

I always book online and leave the drop downs for arriving and leaving at their default positions.

I must pay more attention 🤣

Thats rights! Nothing to do withbeing newbies.1pm seems to be the earliest at most sites. When booking online you'll be given a choice of etas.(you wont e held to your.declared eta, but should arrive before reception closes ) Sometimes, if a site is quiet and wardens are not involved with other duties they may exercise discretion and leeway. Worth a call direct to the site shortly before you arrive to check if earlier arrival is available, if needed.

thanks for the update

What they have done is effectively steal 1 hour of your first days stay. Their justification of this was due to extra cleaning required during the peak of covid. This isn’t entirely true because 1pm arrival time at Blackpool south was introduced well before covid & I am sure it also applied to other sites. Whilst this isn’t so bad in the summer in the winter it leaves you with approximately 3 hours of daylight to enjoy or a 25% reduction. I have never been under the illusion that it’s run by the members for the members & will continue to use their sites while it suits us but the minuses are starting to outweigh the pluses.

We are going to Coniston Water site.

Earliest check-in is 10:00am

As an aside,

Whilst booking a Pub side pitch today asked what time we could arrive was told 13:00 but for £5 could arrive from 09:00. The £5 charge, as they couldn't let the pitch the night before. (unless you fancy leaving before 09:00.

Doesn't seem to matter in Spain,,,turn up when you like and providing they have a pitch they let you on ..Check out is often 1700 hrs or later.BUSBY.
Wow! We managed to get to post #22 without someone mentioning Europe! 🤪

That’s the naughty corner for you, Janine…. I live there

I'm not sure that CAMC exists for the benefit of its members. The continental criteria of "Is there space?" is an ideal approach to admittance. On my current site on Lake Annecy, there is a sign displayed over the lunch period "Find a pitch and book in later". No artificially created lengthy queues either. The world still turns and life goes on.

The obvious answer is to book and pay for a pitch, starting the day before you are going to arrive, then ring the site, on that day and say, "Sorry, we have been delayed, what is the pitch number because we will definitely be arriving the next morning about 11.00hrs."
It's your pitch, you have paid for it, what can they do?

It will only cost you an extra days fee!
