I have just telephoned Canterbury Council. They told me that the park and ride is closed overnight to motorhomes.
Any thoughts on where we could stay on Sunday prior to an 08.00 tunnel on Monday. Please don’t tell me to cross on Sunday as they were booked up when I checked.

I would just leave home later and arrive just before my departure time. You’re going to struggle to find anywhere to stay before the 4th July.

Thanks, but that would mean leaving home at 02.00 in the morning.

I have an idea.... Deal sea front or Kingsdown about 8ish miles to Dover. Or try...Namaste car park (you may want to ring ahead) its a curry house on the roundabout near the docks. You may have to get a takeaway from them if they allownyou to park up. But know others who have been there for parking and enjoyed the food. If i had a driveway i would house you no problem. I will keep thinking on.

I prefer to drive down, for the the tunnel or ferry, overnight. We had to do because John had booked an evening with a guest speaker and forgot that we were catching the ferry next morning. I slept while he, attended the dinner, he slept while I drove to the port. Have done it ever since, unless travelling with others.

It's a lovely drive at that time, little traffic, sometimes it's even like being abroad with the quieter roads. Give it a try, you might, like me. love it. Even better if you have a co-driver.

I have an option of staying near Whitstable at my sister’s. She and her son are still in lockdown, and her Briards and Casper don’t get on, mind you, if we can’t go into the house it won’t be a problem.

I drove for a living for 40 years and blessed the day that I no longer had to set off at midnight to do a return run to London. I’m afraid my body clock wouldn’t cope, and as for a co driver, he’s asleep anyway.

Ah but the return is not for a while ;)
Can understand your reluctance though. I worked full time nights and still have the odd up all nighter. Like a peaceful drive though, apart from someone snoring, not tried the CPAP for when we are moving.

I didn’t mention the snoring as he is never a sleep. He just happens to have his head back, eyes shut and mouth open, making strange noises. BUT when nudged he denies being asleep. Even Casper snores sometimes.

Pop down to Hythe parking permitted alongside canal bank beside Sainburys, couple of minutes from tunnel entrance.

Will take a note of that for our next tunnnel trip, thanks

Marine Parade Dover but I would call into the Tunnel on your way past on the off chance of an earlier crossing as they are running 1 an hour and loading on demand if not they will return you onto the exit road and on to Dover.

We paid £20 for a night on lockdown Eve in March

What about the open car park used by coaches behind Dover Castle? If you are on the A2 towards Dover, at the Duke of York pub (roundabout) take the third exit and head down the hill. The Duke of York school will then be on your right. You will see the castle on your left and before the left hand turn at the bottom, the parking is on your right. As far as I know, no restrictions.

What's wrong with that, lots of HGV and supermarket delivery drivers start at odd times.
Just seen your earlier posts but bad planning whatever the reason

There definitely is restrictions on there. Seen a few prior to this getting tickets. Sorry just saying what I have seen 👍

No problem, I’ve just not been aware of issues and others have parked there seemingly without problems.

just to clarify, I mean the small car park just about opposite the road turning left to the Bleriot memorial.

No mention about no overnighting on the Dover Road website all it says no bus service so only 50p a day.
I think you would get away with is also there is a bit of space people stop in by the entrance when they arrive after the barriers close at 8 p.m.

Helen scousebird do you know anything?
