After 2 years plus in hibernation I dusted off my TomTom Go (540?) with the idea of adding 'point of interest' files of aires etc.

In My Drive (not to be confused with My Drive Connect - how could you?) I cannot open My Places which is where you are supposed to upload the POI files. Anyone know how to do it? I have scrupulously followed the instructions for Importing a Community POI List. Everything else seems to work except my access to the Tom Tom forum so I haven't been able to post a question there.

Any ideas please? Can't log in to Tom Tom forums and ask there.

Is there anyway of getting direct TomTom support ?

I don't know the 540 or its age but it may no longer be maintained by TomTom.
They tend to drop models as new ones appear.

Hi tsrwright I’ve just searched for an email address for them in my contact but it appears all my contact has been vie their web site in contact forms so suggest you look there 😊

Are you sure it's a Go540 ? Don't think they've made or supported those for a long time .
If it is a go 540 it used to connect by Tomtom home , but you can connect it to a laptop via a usb cable and drag and drop POI's onto the map.

Its a Go 520, new in 2018 and the problem partially seems to be the Firefox browser - seems better on Edge. But I am fed up with TomTom and think I will just dump it. Any suggestions as to a best buy for a motorhome?

I know the feeling of trying to find/open folders. Windows file explorer doesn't show the folder?

I spent ages on my iPad trying to get POI's into CoPilot, somethings are much harder than they're worth eh?

I use an iPad Air2 to display, Garmin Glo for GPS as iPad can not do this and CoPilot for navigation and to shout at. Oh yes, and connect it to the iPhone for Traffic info.

I had similar issue that could not find the folder you used to be able to add the POI's to for an older model but this workaround of accessing the device directly worked for me recently.

Method (2)
Direct Web Address link to "Manage Community Content"
(1)... With you device turned on and plugged into the PC USB port
(2)... With MyDrive loaded and the MyDrive showing on the PC Taskbar
(3)... Click on the Link below to open the "Manage Community Content" page

Direct Web Address... Link Removed

After using Method (1) or (2) to access the "Manage Community Content" menu install your .Ov2 and associated .bmp file Here.....

Only ever used Tomtom satnavs , a few minor hiccups nothing major, wouldn't use anything else.
Currently using a Tomtom Camper satnav .

Ok, thanks for all that. I think it is a Go Supreme 5, not that is says so anywhere. Found that NOT using Firefox browser helped. Will try to follow your method Orridge. Always used TomTom too so am reluctant to change over

  1. Go to MyDrive .
  2. Click on the My Places menu.
  3. If you are not already logged in with your TomTom-account, log in now.
  4. Click on POI files .
  5. Click Import POI file .
  6. Click Select File to browse your computer for the file you want to upload.
  7. If your device is connected to your computer with a USB cable the .
From tomtom, I guess that is what you are doing?

Thanks, yes, have been doing that Dik. I think the problem was as follows, because it now seem to have it working ok:

1. Use TomTom 'MyDrive' NOT 'MyDrive Connect'. (Why would dissimilar products have similar names!)

2. Don't use Firefox as your browser - all you get is a blank white dialogue box. MS Edge brought up the right dialogue box which is what I was missing. No wonder I was lost!

3.The POI files you want to upload appeared to me with the Acrobat 'type' and icon and were not labelled '.ov2.'

Whether this is worthwhile now that there are products I didn't know about such as Park for night, Campercontact and Search for sites is doubtful

But I do feel better now I have cracked it :)

Hi tsrwright

The GO Supreme and similar TT models only accept .ov2 files which are the ones containing the POI sites. You cannot download the associated .bmp files that would provide a specific Icon on the Map for the POI's. When you load the .ov2 files to your My Drive Account using the My Drive Website then when the unit is connected via Wifi and or Bluetooth then the POI files are synced to the device and appear at the bottom of the My Places list on the device. If you want to display any of the POI's on the map then you go to Settings/Appearance / Show POI lists on Map and select the Poi you wan to display and Tap Hide. You can now change it to Show and you then select one of the 5 available icons to be used on the map. Generally the idea is you use the same icon for similar POI' ie Supermarkets and when you see an icon on the map if you Tap it then you will see a description of the POI.

John's old tomtom go For motorbikes still works fairly well we got the motorhome in 2009 so we must have had it for at least a couple of years since then, he also has a more up to date tomtom, as have i I bought a used caravan club satnav, person i got it from has kept his older, better, one would not recommend it. Can't even get out of storage before it directs us into someones drive and a dead end then it's next suggestion takes us into a livery yard well it would if we were daft enough to take it. Know by the stupid down country roads it tries to take us to the motorway that it would also take us on some stupid routes abroad, thinking of changing it to say car and caravan but with motorhomes height see how it does then. it is not intuitive when programming either. And i hate that it doesn't give the miles left to drive, so think it may well be back to Tom when we go to Spain.
Have the apps and also carry a map, asked for a new one for my birthday it is due to be available a week before we set off.

A garmin 770, nice bit of kit, bit trumpy, but good 👍

Hi. scotzsue

Just to say the GO Supreme model is the GO Premium model, a car based model, but without the Inbuilt Mobile sim so you have to connect the device to the TT servers via a mobile phone. It is not sold in the UK but in the US and Australia as well as some other countries around the world.

In the UK the nearest similar model is the GO520/GO620 models which are the same except they do not offer the IFTTT facility. I believe however that if you buy the GO Premium model that will not now provide the IFTTT service as I think it may have been turned Off by TT.

DJA won't be buying another at the moment, 4 satnavs and mobile phones and tablets is a bit of overkill. Will be trying to contact CMC regarding duff information. it's garmin based supposedly and my old garmin did not show the dead ends as through roads.

Hi scotzsue

I also have an up to date Garmin Camper and for 2 years it would direct me past a turning then turn into the car parking lot along the front of a parade of shops before directing me out of the end and back to take the turning it had past. They eventually sorted it however rather than taking the turning which was what they had done for years they still ignored the turning and now recommend a route that is 5 miles long instead of 2 miles.Based on the aforementioned and other routing offered I am not that impressed with the unit. I also don't find the traffic data is anywhere as good.

Hi DJA we have in the past had 2 running my ancient. Garmin which i donated to my son years ago and John's tomtom, Tom always had best routes, certainly most sensible. Bought the Garmin camper as i was hankering after a camper satnav and John's golf friend was selling it at less than half price. Now know why 😂 should have bitten the bullet and bought a new tomtom, it might still go up for sale and will put dosh towards a tomtom. Other friend has AVtex camper sat nav and know from following him that it is quite good. Serves me right for being tight fisted.
It's ok when you know the route but then you don't need a sat nav. will give it a try along with tom when we go to Spain and make a decision when we get home.

Interesting, I thought it was a 520 but when I logged in here in Australia where we live it said it it was a Premium! I think I will keep it simple, run what we have as it is and use other sources as we always have for camperstops. Thanks to those who contributed ideas :)

It has worked ok in Australia, Europe, South Africa and USA. We'll use other sources as we always have for camperstops and the latest online. Thanks to all those who contributed ideas :)
