Hi
I have held my full licence since 1979 and would like to know if I can drive a winnebago brave .

:welco:
If the MAM (Gross weight) is 7500 kg or less and you have retained your C1 yes you can. If you are under 70 you should have the C1 on your license.

If you have C1 category on your licence (which you should have) you can drive vehicle up to 7500Kg. If your over 70 and did not retain C1 then restricted to 3500Kg

Braves up to 1997 and sub 31 foot are typically sub 7500kgs, UFO's accepted(pusher chassis, rare).

Only if you passed your test before 1997 which you did....

It sounds like you can drive up to 7.5T vehicles. Do check that the RV isn’t above this weight as a lot are and this would require you hold a C licence.

I'm not into American RVs but I do recall a case where someone was sold one that was legally too wide to be used on UK roads, would the Brave be in the same situation?

That was 20 odd years ago and at the court of appeal the guy lost and the company won.
I believe since then there is now a dispensation allowing RV's to be 102" wide as mine is.
The legal costs bankrupted the guy sadly, lost his house everything.

Look on the weight plate, it may have been downrated from 18000 lbs.
Many without slides were on the Chevy P32 18000lb chassis.
A few with slides where also built on this but most were on the W20 20000lb chassis, like mine these can't be legally downrated.

I passed pre-97 but didn't have C1 on my licence. I had to jump through the medical hoops and it was put on automatically without having to take the C1 test, thankfully. DVLA couldn't explain why it wasn't there. Best of luck.
