Campsites near Vitoria Gasteiz Spain please anyone.
We want to cycle to Greenway south of the city but want the security of a campsite rather than leave our MH in a lay-by or similar all day. We've sent emails to various sources of info but no replys. Very helpful!! Anybody been around that way?

Camping Ibaia is about 7km from the city or there is an aire on Calle Luis Olariaga, 01010 - GPS Co-ordinates: N 42°52'00.60 W 002°41'06.78, 2 km from the city, has water and waste disposal and its free

We have friends in the city and go often, haven't used either as we don't need to, but I'd use the aire if I had to choose

We stayed on the above Aire for 2 nights in March. No problems at all. Seem to remember there was an exclusion at the Aire one night of the week for a market. but there were about 25 other MH parked on the same car park outside the designated area. I think the car park is also a Park & Ride for the Old City about 3 km away.

The Main Police Station is just down the road at the opposite corner of the Plaza. Not much in the way of shops in the immediate vicinity other than a Panaderia for you morning rolls. But there are small supermarkets and a launderette a couple of blocks away.
The image above seems to show the Market actually in progress with MH's still on the site

Yes, Mark has given the details above. If you enter "Calle Luis Olariaga, Vitoria Gasteiz" in Google Maps it will show the location of the Aire.

When you are there, go into town for tapas, the morcilla is to die for, just chuck you serviettes on the floor when you're done, visit the cathedral they are restoring, they have an English speaking guide, you'll be surprised how many basque people speak English, watch out for the trams they are on you in a moment, learn basque for cheers (it's topa, raise your glass in a bar, cry topa and you won't buy another drink all night) small measures though about 1/3 of a pint, it's a beautiful city, we have been visiting our basque friends for over a decade, the procession at Easter is stunning, the nativity in the park also, but you quickly learn El sol de espana es un mito

Thanks to Markh and Namwaldog for the info on Vitoria aire. We are now parked up there and it is absolutely fine. Now let's pedal off to the Info Bureau and a coffee maybe!

Watch out for the trams as I seem to remember that the cycle lanes and tramlines merge in places. Enjoy Yourselves

Thanks Namwaldog, we cycled around the city today(what a great place) had coffee etc. you're right the lanes merge and they're very quiet. Cycling the Greenway tomorrow although there could be storms. Ugh! Thanks
