Hi folks
Catching early ferry from Cairnryan in a couple of weeks, any recommendations for a nearby overnight would be appreciated.

There are a couple of obvious spots on the road round in to stranraer... about a 10 min drive from cairnryan...
The one i use regularly is a large layby with a little cafe at one end of it...can't miss it on the right at the head of the loch as you drive round twoards stranraer ..

I’ve also used that spot South of the port and it’s lovely & quiet.

There is also a big layby South of Girvan but traffic passes very close & you can really feel it when wagons pass if you’re parked close to the road.

Because I'm less than an hour from the port I don't really need an overnight, but ax others have said there are no shortage of places within half an hour and a few much closer than that.
It would really depend on what direction the op is travelling from.
Someone mentioned the lay-by at Girvan, a much better option if coming from that direction is the car park by the beach in Girvan. Its then a short stroll in to town for the shops/chippy.

Would it be this one, coming north Brendan?

That's the one Jock, but my preference would be about a 1/2 mile north in the town.

Och aye, doon the harbour. I must admit, I'd rather be there myself Brendan. (y)
I'm assuming there isn't a problem overnighting at that spot?

Cheers,

Jock. :)

No problem at all.
I was there about a week ago and I think there were about 15 vans that night.
Occasionally there are some Itinerant caravans there, usually only 2 or 3, but not seen that for a while, and I've never had any problems even then. If you're not happy under those circumstances there are other places nearby.

It has changed quite a bit since that street view image Jock. There's a new swimming pool and gym there now with a small cafe attached.

The layby, known as Balyett, is well used by vans. I don't know where Brendan has seen a swimming pool near the harbour, its half a mile away! Vans do overnight at the harbour but we do have boy racers who use the same car park.

There's no problem with parking there Jock.
A wee point about the car park at Girvan harbour is that its a cracking spot to watch the northern lights.
Motorhome parking is welcomed by the locals, the town has become very run down over the last 40yrs & the locals warmly welcome motorhome folk spending in the local shops etc.

For those who are not in the know, the car park is all hard standing & just a few yards from the beach.

Oh & its a 30 to 40min drive to Cairnryan.
