For those who have added a B2B on a Ducato (or similar) PVC - what route did you take for the cable?

Did you manage to run the cable internally or did you end up dropping out under the van and back up inside?

Our starter battery is in the usual place in the passenger footwell. The original cab floor has padded insulation underneath effectively limiting running a 16mm2 cable under the cab floor fro what I can see.

The leisure battery is under the seat opposite the sliding door (2 forward facing belted seats with a table, both front seats swivel to give you 4 around a table).

Options I can see are either running the cable up behind the dashboard, across behind/under the steering wheel down through the step and past the B-pillar under the hab floor, or dropping down out of an (existing) hole in the engine battery well, running under the van and coming back up under the rear seat - the water tank filler pipe already comes through the side of the van and runs through this space before dropping down through the floor to the underslung tank, but we’d need to make (and seal) new hole for the cable I think.

If it does come to running the cable under the van, I think we’ll need some conduit to protect it, and will need to be wary of the heat from the exhaust.

Lots of posts here about B2B upgrades but no-one I can see has mentioned the exact cable route they took, so interested to see what others have done!

Lastly, I chose 16mm2 cable as this fits directly into the Victron 30A B2B and (depending on final cable run!) should be sufficient for a suitable voltage top over the expected length. However, the converters socket in the B pillar behind the drivers seat has a connection to the vehicle battery, which is designed for powering accessories in the rear of a conversion. It is rated at 50A according to the converters manual. It’s a fairly skinny cable though! Has anyone used this for a 30A B2B installation? Victron recommend the cable is fused at 60A but is there any reason this couldn’t be lower given that it’s a 30A B2B?

There is a built in cable run side to side in the Ducato cab floor. Access by removing the door step covers and you will see it.

Yep, I had all the covers etc off yesterday. On my 2013 van there are two looms running through that conduit. I didn’t have any luck getting the cable more than 10cm or so through, though it was getting late in the day. I’ll have another go with cable rods this morning but thought I’d check to see if there was another route I was missing or a general co senses on how others have done it.

It would work quite well if I could make that route work though, as it would then be easy to get to the starter battery well via the passenger step.

Just trying to avoid needing to remove the seats if possible!

Going to take another look into this next weekend - last time I was never able to get even a cable rod through the underfloor duct - guessing it might be necessary to remove the seat?

Last time I resigned myself to running the cable under the van in conduit, but having looked at that in more detail today, I’d have to cross over the exhaust and can’t see that the conduit is going to fare especially well even behind the heat shield.

Genuinely interested how others have done this (or had it done) - did you manage to get a larger cable through the ducting, or use the existing wiring to the converter socket, or find another solution?

Perhaps others had Leisure batteries closer to the cab battery, e.g under a seat?

I think I’ve had a revelation…. For some reason I’ve been fixated on bringing the cable in under the rear seat along the drivers side (same side as the rear seat etc).

Just realised I can come out of the passenger side of the battery box, use the cable run in the step to get behind the passenger seat, then come across behind the raised/rounded section of floor into the under seat storage box from there! Should be a (slightly) shorter cable run too!

Looks like you've got it sorted, I fitted a b2b under the drivers seat on my ducato pvc, and prior to that upgrade I also fitted 50mm cables from the alternator to the battery, and replaced my earth's on the engine

My install

I think you will find if you come out round the passenger side, behind the passenger seat then behind the drivers seat to the drivers side van wall then a right turn toward the battery bay. If I remember correct the connectors and cables ran that way in mine nyway so I piggied through them.
