Hi. I have a c1e entitlement on my driving licence, it is restricted with a trailer to 8250kg from 12000kg, I also have a D1e entitlement for minibus and upto 16 people plus trailer with limit at 12000kg BUT NO RESTRICTION. DVLA tells me it is because it is because I did not sit a test for the C1E but I did not sit a test for a D1E so I still cannot work out what the difference is between C1E with restriction and D1E with no restriction, should I call my motorhome a minibus? It is not a truck either but no mention is made of vehicle type.

Why do you think DVLA rules have to make any sense???????

I just renewed my license and have back all the categories I "gave up" after I had a health scare a few years back re-instated - but I no longer have the C+E or full motorcycle categories they added to the temporary license ( and which I wasn't entitled to) but because of all the faff of getting the temporary license I was told (by our friendly local policeman) just to make sure I had what I needed and leave it until the permanent license came through rather than muddy things up.

Much depends on when you passed your original driving test. During certain change-over years the transfer from 'groups' to 'categories' brought some restrictions to inherited entitlements. Your example is just one, the transfer from a car derived C1+E carried a weight restriction but the D1E did not; it is a complex situation which varies from person to person depending upon dates of passing a test.Hopefully the link goes some way to adding some detail. I have two D1E and two C1E listings on my licence with and without restrictions as I have inherited entitlements from original car test and also derived entitlements from holding C+E and D+E, they also have different expiry dates! I did say it can be complex!!

reading these posts made me check for C's and D's. I don't have C or D of any type ! Am I missing out on something here. My licence shows only B1,B,BE. I'll be seventy five come March.

C is an HGV over 7500kg....C1 is HGV up to 7500kg
D is a full sized coach.....D1 is for minibuses but not for hire or reward (payment) though you can accept payment for fuel unless that's changed.
The various Bs are for passenger cars up to 3500kg, which includes motorhomes up to 3500kg and the E part allows a trailer.
If you want any C1 or D1 categories now you'll need to pass a medical

Notified this morning that I,ve lost my C1 license through previous illness.. have been for the treadmill test but didn,t pass so will be selling my Hobby.
Rules are there for the safety of other road users and I,m quite resigned to the result.
Hey ho...which way do I go now..... G
