Hi I'm new to the forum and am looking at fixed bunk bed layouts as I will be travelling with my kids who are 14 and 11 and dog. Was wondering if anyone owns a Bunk Bed Layout who would be willing to make a recommendation as this layout seems quite unusual.

At the moment I have shortlisted
RollerTeam Zafiro 675
Adria Coral 670
Benimar Primero 313
Swift Escape 696

MTIA

:welco:hi, hopefully someone will be along soon who has ,or had, one with bunk beds. There are a few on here who have had them

We have a 2013 Rollerteam 707, overhead cab, 7m long. We took my daughter, her wife and my other daughter skiing in the French Alps. Daughter and wife used the bunk beds and other daughter used the the double dinette bed. Worked really well, plenty of travelling space. Ours is the transverse bunk bed type. The CI Mizar GTL living is a very similar layout, no longer in production so as rare as rocking horse poo but a fabulous van. I would say that we are very impressed with the quality and size of the bunk bed mattresses. Have a good look around and jump about in a few. Enjoy :giggle:

Check out the payload and if you need a C1 licence before you buy. There are lots of threads about payload and C1 licences on this site and the new MotorhomeFun magazine has an article about payload.

I'm thinking that with three people and a dog you will need quite a lot of "stuff".

Hi thanks for the replies so far, I like the layout of the CI, that wasn't one I'd come across before so thanks.

I do have a licence to drive heavier vehicles and yes, I reckon I will need lots of stuff and payload is already on radar! There will be an additional adult sometimes too so it's definitely a consideration.

As you have found out it's a rare layout of the ones you list the Adria will be the best of the bunch for build quality.
As mentioned do you have a C1 as with the age of your kids you are going to need at the very least a 4000 kg van to get any sort of payload.

Lenny finding a 4000 van is difficult though as all of the vans I've looked at advertise at 3500, is it adequate to upgrade (if that's the right word?)

Don't have any of these vans, in fact nt had a bunk bed one, but good friends have a 696, they use the bunks themselves, but travel with various grandchildren, they also have a dog. Have had a few niggle swith their van, a bit of trim coming off repeatedly springs to mind, but think they have had it 5/6 years, so must be happy with it. We had a 686 for 4 years they are budget vans, sorry 'entry level' and it does show in some areas.
The vans are over 3.5 so you will need minimum C1 licence to drive one.
Be wary of 3.5 vans as payload for the equivalent of 3 adults a child and a dog may not be sufficent. Make sure any van you are serious about, is taken over a weighbridge, don't take manufacturer or dealers word for it.
Good luck with your search

Ralph-n-Bev used to have a CI Mizar GTL living & might be able to shed light on uprating the weight?
😂
We did we loved it . Brilliant family van. 100% better quality and build than the new version.
We had lots of lovely family holidays in “mizzi”.
But I’ve had a bottle of Prosecco now 😊 and all I can say is we’d no idea about weights back then .
At all. 😵
There were 5 of us and 2 border terriers and we went up and down the country with 5 bikes, 2 canoes , and all the paraphernalia entailed with a family , with no idea. 😲😵☺️ The Mizar made it up the steepest of hills . Albeit with us all leaning forward . Moving backwards and forwards willing her up 😂
We are now only 2 with one border.
We have a PVC that we’ve uprated . So we’ve a big 1ton pay load.
We can carry more now, than then . But we don’t .
It’s an easy parerwork process. I’ve no idea how to do it . Ralph did it . But I’m sure if you google , it’ll tell you.
Cheers .

We have a Sunlight A72 with rear bunk beds. We sleep over cab with a large dinette which converts to a small ish double. My daughter (30) has used the bottom bunk A few nights and we have junk on top one. Every day use of the bottom bunk is for the dogs though. We are plated at 3850 and for the 2 of us and 2 x labs full holiday mode weigh in at 3660.

I've always thought the Itineo SB700 is a brilliant lay out.
We have met two separate families tràvelling the world in them.

We have rear bunks in our Laika Eco Vip, they run in the same direction of travel rather than across the rear wall. The previous van Carado had bunks across the back wall. Both layouts worked well. As you have dogs you may find then enjoying the easy access to the lower bunk (ours do) so we added an safety net (type used on the upper bunk to stop anyone rolling out) this keeps the woofers out at night and lets the children sleep in peace.

Just looked at this and it looks great, one down side is no oven though. I have lived from hob rings before and found it too restrictive, real shame as this is a lovely A Class with bunks otherwise.

Still searching for the elusive 4000 + vans with bunks. They don't seem to exist!

Thanks, and thanks for the lovely review of the Mizzi. I think they are quite rare though sadly!

Gosh your babies look comfy on there. We have a Golden Retriever currently 7 months old. I can't wait to get on the road with her!

We're viewing a secondhand 696 on Monday so fingers crossed and thanks for the info. I am concerned about payload but struggling to find a van with over 3.5 with the right configuration. I can't make my kids share a bed as it's not fair to put my 11 year old daughter in a bed with her 14 year old (often smelly) brother!

Laika Kreos 3002, bunks and generous lounge, usually plated 3850 - 4200kg.
I've seen the odd one plated at 3500kg.
You'll be hard pushed to find one for sale in the UK, they only seem to come up a few times each year.

Hi,

We are also looking for a bunk bed MH (around the £20k mark). I'm a bit limited in my ability to view MHs up in Scotland at the moment but as and when I do, I will drop a comment on here and it may help you out - if you are still looking!

Good luck,
Mark

We had a chausson flash 03 when our kids were little. Great for smaller kids but the bunks were in my opinion not the most comfy for bigger folk.
Our current van has an electric rear double and an other double fits under making 2 massive double bunks. They are very comfortable but headroom is limited with both beds in
