Parked on a dump point and selected the dump tanks jack setting (2 Jack's deployed to tilt the van on its longitudinal axis) Didnt look and one jack was half on a 1 inch kerb. The Kerb fractured and the attached picture shows the outcome. Fortunately the leg and its mount seem OK and the jack can still do its job.
I took it off but its 3mm steel and I only have a lump hammer. Rather than try and fix it and fail, and then not be able to refit it I ordered one from SAP which will be despatched UPS tomorrow to Spain. We are at Sanlucar at the moment intending to stay a few days but will move to La BellaVista as it's more convenient to get a parcel there.

We use a simple lever in the rear boot, never failed us yet ?

BUT new van has an app for that, seriously you just press dump on your phone and it’s gone ?

Oops, sometimes I think I am not as careful as I should be but been lucky so far (y)

Bent mine the same driving off an uneven pitch, not to that extreme though, it annoys the hell out of me every time I look at it, what was the cost if you don’t mind me asking.
Depending on the price will be the difference to levering it or getting new

Will know tomorrow morning when they have the delivery cost. Report after.

That's either a damn good zoom lens or there's no way in hell that's 3mm thick :p Looks more like 6mm from here.. *squints
You would EASILY straighten 3mm if it was (and it would also fold up like a coke can when you put the truck on it) :D
Also it looks stainless steel so that won't be cheap :o

Does that foot just screw on the end of the hydraulic piston? Can't tell from the pics. (how does it attach.)

I just guessed 3mm, its definitely not 6mm and it might be stainless, to be frank I was not that pedantic, more frantic!
The plate attaches with a fine threaded bolt, there is an O ring one side and a rubber grommet (I think as mine is mangled and a complete fixing set has been ordered) on the other under a washer so that there is some cushioned angular movement when its bolted up and in use.

Go to a smithy they will heat it then hammer it back as it should be then temper it.
There is a bell shape that supports the fixings and I am concerned about it getting deformed with no way of then bolting it back in place. At the moment I can and it works. So once I have the new one to hand I will see if the bent one can be remodelled correctly and at least I will have a spare if it can. That will guarantee it never happens again!

No price yet, Mick telephoned yesterday to say they had organised E&P and they had sent it direct to me in Spain on Friday, however he did not have any prices or tracking detail. So will let you know when I do.

As you have no vice or suitable tools turn it over, pack with bricks and it will hammer back flat, difficult to see the size of your hammer you will need at least a 2lb, a 4lb sledge would be better.
Far too many people cut the shaft down to fit in their toolbox, thus rendering the hammer almost useless, hammers are designed to be swung to a sweet spot and used correctly are a very handy tool.

Silly boy, why didn't use use the air to position it for emptying?
I have the 12 ton Merc chassis Lenny, so I have the Merc air which gives various level options, like overall lower, overall higher, (than ride height) then there is lift front, lift back, but no lift longitudinally. So not the same as VB, however the jacks are easily deployed if I want to do a proper flush out. The Merc air is standard so no extra charge.

Possibly sorted by now but... Could you not have turned it up side down and used the other jack to have pressed it back some what? It would never go back properly but as near as damn it i'm sure. Your truck would have the weight better than any hammer.
Just a thought..

Interesting idea, but would the fold give first and straighten or would the other plate bend. The chances of the latter are too great to end up with 2 buggered plates. But the new one is on UPS and the existing bent one is working fine.... at the moment!

You could just sell it to Rudski01!

Oh, by the way, what about the damage to the kerb?

Excellent idea. I just left the site as there was a queue for the dump. Well that sounds good to me.

No the other plate or jack you would use like a Hydraulic press . By turning the damaged plate upside down and supporting it some what , the other jack would then press it back into shape or thereabouts.
You damaged the other one by applying pressure at the kerb side and because the larger area was not supported and was fixed by the ram its connected to...it gave away. The kerb side bit was its weakest area . If you had the flat plate further on the kerb..it would not have bent it at all.
Glad you have sorted it any way.

Save the damaged one until you get home or see somewhere that can straighten it for you, it can be straightened quite easily with the right tools, a hammer not being one of them. Then keep it as a spare.
