Decided to take this trip

Stopped overnight in Marlborough car park. No problems. Came to move the motorhome this morning. Engine coolant starts leaking from underneath.

Rang Nationwide, got through to the AA. Lady on the phone said we were not covered for this type of vehicle . Though she could quote for the breakdown.

Explained that this was an ongoing issue and that our motorhome forum was full of posts regarding this, she said “I will cover this, seeing as you are being honest”.

Seems to me, they just try to charge you or fob you off.

Not sure where the “being honest” came from. I was merely stating a fact !.

This breakdown thing is getting to be a minefield that you don't know will work till you actually need it.

Sounds like Nationwide breakdown cover has become not fit for purpose since changing underwriters?

Can you tell where the leak is from, could be an easy fix

We decided to change bank account again as don't want to be in that situation. We're covered with our insurance via Comfort anyway so used that when we needed recovery in France in June. Glad we hadn't cancelled it.

Arguably, you're not "broken down".

Drive for 20 miles, let the engine overheat and a few items seize: THEN you're broken down! ;)
(Preferably in an awkward place where you are causing traffic hold-ups and their recovery vehicle can't get to you.)

I broke down yesterday on my way to Bristol, on a very busy A14. Luckily managed to pull into an emergency only lay by. Green Flag were really very good. Someone came to access vehicle, then called brake down lorry to pick me up and drop off at home. I will certainly carry on using them.

Ive had deelings with national breakdown 3 times in the past 20 years or so and everytime they have been spot on.
Last time was probably 5 years ago for a blown coolant hose around 3 miles from home. They were with me within an hour with a low loader.

I have an ongoing complaint with the CEO's office over the AAs' handling of our trip home. They are taking it extremely seriously. I've just pasted the relevant (anonymous) OP text to the executive handling the case.

I’m glad you’re taking this up John. We’re seriously considering pulling our funds out of Nationwide and closing our Flexplus Account as a direct result of the series of problems with AA EU breakdown cover that have been highlighted on MHF.

We spoke with someone at the local Nationwide branch regarding issues motorhome ownerss had with the AA/ Nationwide recovery. They advised anyone who had an issue to formally report it. Maybe worth sending them a link to some of the posts on the site regarding teh service.
