Any one using Britstops, we have used France passion for a few years which we enjoy the variation of places available but looking at the Britstop website it seems to be mostly Pubs! am I wrong?

We are trying to plan a route from Cornwall, traveling across to the east coast via Cambridge and on up to Sunderland via Cromer for a family wedding in May. From there we will do some of Northumberland, Kielder forest and return home via Yorkshire/wales/Devon.
We belong to Camping and Caravanning club so will use some of those sites too, If anyone has any suggestions of nice places to visit or unusual places to stay roughly along that route, but no wild camping thank you.

We have around 4 weeks to get to Sunderland and about the same coming back. We are staying with family and friends whilst in the Sunderland/ South Shields area.
Many thanks.

It is mostly pubs, but with a scattering of farm shops, breweries, vineyards etc etc.
New book due out end of the month.

We have used Britstops a few times.

We would rather pay twenty odd quid for a good meal and a patch of ground to park on thrown in for free, rather than pay twenty odd quid for a patch of ground to park, then cook and pay for your own meals.

Try the pubstops map on here it's free!

Hi Lumpy I did a trip similar to yours a couple of years ago over a three week spell (Cornwall to the Borders and back), but did it up the west coast to Cumbria, then across to Northumberland, down through Yorkshire, stopped at Lincoln (for MH show), then down to Suffolk to visit family and back cross-country to Cornwall.

Most nights I used Britstops, but did use the CAMC site at Whitely Bay for a couple of nights in order to do my washing and get EHU ((y)). I personally found the majority of Britstops to be great, yes the most are pubs or inns, but as long as they weren't located on a busy road, I got a good nights sleep, and most also offered decent food and not too extortionate cost, saving me the bother of cooking. I found a quick phone call was appreciated by most of the hosts.

We use britstops quite often, for 30 odd quid, it's well worth the book.

It's not just pub's, although it mainly is, there are also quite a few farmshops and restaurants, including some great ones here in Northumberland.

Also, what we really like about britstops is that you aren't booked in, so if you turn up somewhere and it's really busy, or you don't like the location, just get the book out and drive down to the next one, we've found some of our favourite one's that way 👌

We had the book a few years ago but never used it, those I phoned were either no longer doing it or not bothered. Might give it another go through, things could have changed because of Covid.

I highlighted the Britstops which are “none pubs” and they tend to be our targets. We are not averse to pubs but prefer farmshops museums etc which are quiet at night.

Well worth £30 along with CCC and CAMC membership, giving plenty of flexibility. Plus, of course, a bit of FLT activity!

Have a look at the CAMpRA web site there are lots of new Aires popping up now😊
Yep, and this is why after 2 years with britstops I wont be buying again as only used it twice. With the facebook groups, park4 nights, search for sites and campra you're already spoiled for choice in my view.

We use pubstops but don’t feel the need to subscribe to britstops. As Lenny HB has said , you’ll find lots of them already listed on Searchforsites. Best to ring ahead.

Ps our very own Keith here has a whole bunch on moon fruit pubstopovers, also a good resource.

We bought the Britstops book in 2014. Next time I checked it had doubled in price, god knows what it is now. Same as we say about site fees though, if people keep paying it they'll keep charging it.

Scarborough ccc site ok but nowhere near Scarborough a bus ride away.
I stayed at Scarborough CCC last summer and found it an easy walk into town, I did it most days. There is a direct route down the road, a footpath route on the coast plus a part road part footpath route that brings you out by Sainsbury.

Is it just a case that wandering into a pub and showing your book has had it's day. Facebook groups such as pub stopovers and apps like park for night make it obsolete? Even just finding a pub and asking works sometimes

2022 Brit Stops book has remained at £28 plus £3.60 P&P. :drinks:

For me - I like a bit of certainty. Britstops facilitates this.
Yes I could use the other options, but it works for me
I like to know where I'm going, and what's on offer.
...and for £30 a year, the price isn't worth quibbling about.

Lumpy , if you are travelling up the east coast from Norfolk, you could drop into Jasmin Camping for a night or two and visit our esteemed leader Jim

Based in Sutton on Sea and only a short walk to the lovely beach and promenade, it is a lovely site and you would likely meet some other Funsters whilst there too 😺
