When in UK set your watch to CET Summer time and live to that - simples.

I haven't worn a watch since retiring nearly 20 years ago. I spend much of the long summer days outdoors and much of the short winter days in my workshop restoring motorbikes. I eat lunch when it's convenient and dinner when I feel hungry.

I gave up a relationship in Oslo because I could not imagine living somewhere where the street lights came on at 1440 in Dec.

You can fiddle with clocks but you cannot lengthen the daylight hours at any given latitude.

A couple of years back I was in Spain in March. So I was about as far West as Devon, but on CET. So the sun didn't come up until nearly 10am.

In the early 70s? We had an experiment with double bst . Fine in summer but winter in south Wales was not fun.
The obvious change to me was 4 time changes a year, gmt to bst to 2bst and back again, why was that not implemented?

Most of the world does stuff digitally, and that works on UTC. Local time is just an inconvenient thing that us non-digital squishy things worry about.

Problems arose when the date that BST started and whatever the Europeans called it started on different dates in different countries, not so simple then.
