Breathalyzing drivers of motorhomes

I wonder whether it should be an option rather than be fitted by default. Also, whether an auto electrician or the main dealer (when the vehicle is being sold new) would disable it on request, a condition of sale.
Be a bit like adblue deletes. Dealers won’t and a garage won’t, officially. 😉

If there's no road user nearby who would benefit from the use of the indicator, its use isn't necessary.

As I've read it; in another thread recently, it was written that some lane guidance software requires use of an indicator to change lanes. I shan't drive such a vehicle with lane guidance unless and until that indicator requirement is removed. Things which assist may be good, eg parking sensors. Things which interfere with my driving or take control over any element of it, are not good.
It takes more thought to check is there anyone near Yes/No, do I need to indicate Yes/No than check/indicate.
Of course the lane guidance requires you to indicate, it needs to know your awake and not just drifting.

They should have..
I was expecting it but they didn’t. Another one came along when the recovery vehicle was there and they also didn’t.

Strangely I did mention this to the recovery driver and he just said “that’s because it’s bloody obvious you haven’t been drinking”
But still.

It is already "mandatory" that if your involved in an motorvehicle incident at any time you are breathalysed.
I mean any sort of incident like clipping the kerb, parking half in a bay/ clipping another vehicle etc as well as reported accidents

Wow, let me explain this as if you are 5, if the people with the blue flashing lights turn up, it is an "incident", clear enough?
Half in a bay is not an incident that is a captial offence.

The recovery driver said offering you his vodka...
Never obvious, 30 years ago a freind was rear ended at lights in Luton, 09:00, both breathalyzed, he failed & band, other driver fined for driving without due care.

But as has been pointed out several times, in the Uk the police officer has to have reasonable suspicion to perform a breathalyser test
Random stops are permitted. Random tests are not. They need to have grounds for suspicion.
The original post referred to police pulling over all motorhomes and testing all drivers - in the uk this (quite rightly) would not be allowed.

From “ask the police” website ….

“ The police cannot stop a vehicle just to carry out a random breath test. They have to have a reasonable suspicion that the person has consumed alcohol or drugs. However, once the vehicle has been stopped for, perhaps, a routine check, this can be ascertained through the smell of alcohol, slurred speech or glazed eyes etc”

Easy tiger…..lets keep things civil. We’re all on the same side here 😉

Unfortunately the police can make up any excuse or reason to B test you................and have done.

Sounds a bit like people against any other driver aids ( like when abs became standard) I suspect a lot of them have an over assament of their own competence . It's part of the safety standards for a reason all aids have to do is be better than the average driver the same with autonomous cars when they're available. When we get a significant number of autonomous cars I think there's going to be a big improvement in traffic flows and a reduction in accidents and road rage.

Meaning the police are not always above board
I don't think any organisation has staff who are totally above board whether the police, medics, builders or scaffolders! But in the context of finding an excuse to carry out more breath tests I don't see that in the same vein as taking bribes or turning a blind eye to people in the same roll you trouser leg up club

Us scaffolders are and have always been above board;);)

I'm not against driver aids. I'm not going to have so-called driver aids in my vehicle which would take over in any way that would interfere with my driving. ABS is OK, because it may assist, though it's not activated on me so far. Might be worth mentioning that if I were drowsy enough to need something to keep me in my lane, I should perhaps already have stopped for a rest.

Well obvious or not two separate response cars 4 officers and none breathalysed me

By the way I would have blown zero anyway.

You did actually read his facile question?
"I mean any sort of incident like clipping the kerb, parking half in a bay/ clipping another vehicle etc as well as reported accidents"
That was the civil answer.

I rented a Tesla 3 when we were in US with MH and they would not let us drive 8.1m KT 599 up Pikes Peak.
Absolutely loved the autonomous driving, it was so much fun listening to Angie screaming as we drove through Denver.

They don't have to "make up any excuse or reason to B test you".
If they have a "suspicion", a very broad spectrum, they can.

Its an important part of being innocent until proven guilty. If the authorities can do what they want, without any justification, whats starts as something small can become something very different and open to abuse

Precisely why all the agencies with arrest and/or prosecution powers have independent complaints processes, or can be judicially reviewed. Lets not assume that things we don't personally like are abuses of power. Yes there have been examples, but equally there have been many examples where individuals or organisations have been censured for over stepping the line.
