Our Breakdown cover is up for renewal soon. Last year we had to go to Caravan and Camping Club ie Arrival with RAC. The cost was approximately £300 for membership and Arrival UK/EU cover which was a deal RAC was doing. This year I'm guessing it will be that plus the membership fee.

Previously we were with SAGA but they stopped selling their breakdown cover separately from their Insurance this was a £100 for UK/EU cover which was a bargain.

The reason we have separate breakdown cover to our Insurance is that NFU is the best deal on our size of motorhome. Unfortunately their breakdown cover which would be included in our price does not cover our size of motorhome, which is 8.5M+ and 6.7 ton. The problem also arises that a lot of breakdown companies only cover up to 3.5ton and 7-7.5m long.
When I looked into it last year a seem to remember even the Caravan and Motorhome club Mayday didn't cover over 6.5ton. This was only made clear when I question this with them!
So my question is who do others use for breakdown cover for larger motorhomes and approximately what is the cost.

Hello Terry

We use Comfort insurance and opt for the additional breakdown cover! There are some limitations (financial) if touring in Europe and you need repatriation, but other than that, it covers us 9m+ (10m with tow ball bikes) and 7.3T…

Even if the insurance is more expensive with Comfort than NFU, you’ve got £300+ difference as your paying for separate breakdown cover…

Maybe worth a conversation to see if the total price is competitive!

Hiya Harvey,
Hope you are both keeping well, long time no see.

With our other van we used Motorhome facts ie Victor Millwell insurance which was the same as Comfort and yes they were at the time the best value.

The big difference with our NFU policy was that when we insured with them over 9 yrs ago now they didn't require a tracker or Alarm unlike Comfort who required them for this van, although we fitted the latter.
So that saves the original fitting/supply cost and subs that are charged yearly!

I think the savings I once enjoyed are possibly not going to be so good and I do know that the Arrival/RAC works due to our breakdown in France last year which covered everything including the repatriation!
