What companies that are good do you use for breakdown cover to include overseas breakdown and recovery.

Caravan Club Mayday with Green Flag have no restrictions for over 3.5t.... However you would need to check for overseas as we don't venture abroad so don't need that cover.

RAC through Caravan and Camping club take on any size and any weight
That is a weird one which brings in the "is it a camper van or a motorhome debate" because strangely RAC have no size or weight restrictions UNLESS it is classed as a camper van which are limited to 3.5t.

We had mayday through the C&MC but they don't cover EU. However, through our insurance with Think insurance they do an EU breakdown cover so we're all sorted. We kept the Mayday in place cause it covers our other vehicles too.

I have AA cover through Safeguard insurance. They have moved my 6m van on their breakdown truck.

Further to my post #4 about Mayday I believe it may be possible to buy extra European cover on a day to day basis direct from Greenflag.
Again never needed it so not enquired but I seem to remember somethi g about it when I first looked into it

They don't do over 3.5t.. that's why after 45yrs I had to leave them and go with Mayday.

We have it included with AIB insurance for our 3850kg van. Certainly cheaper than getting separate. Full European cover as well.

We have LV= insurance and that includes Britannia breakdown UK & EU at very competitive rates which covers over 3500 kg .our van is 4500 kg and 7.5m long towing a trailer which is also covered😊

There aren't many to choose from - RAC through Caravan and Camping club take on any size and any weight - I think there is a small discount going through the club. I just paid including European cover £222

We got cover for ours from RAC. We had to take the cover through the camping and caravan club as they don’t do the cover if you go direct. It’s called the RAC Arrival package.
My first year with RAC ARRIVALS ....£80 for 7500kg RV, UK only
Two years later and no claims it had gone up to over £200.
Told them of a dark place they could shove it.

We found that the RAC dont do over 3.5t.
That said, they seem to go by looks.
They took our 4.5t, 17 seat ford transit minibus without question.
But I heard tell of them refusing a 4.3t (shorter) motorhome identical to ours.

Nationwide Flexplus
We were abroad when there was a discussion on here about some confusion about the cover provided by N/Wide re vehicles over 3.5tonnes.

Was that matter resolved?

I ask because I seem to remember that some exec. from NW was supposed to be
writing to policyholders, but, having got home I do not see a letter from him/them.

The NW policy confusion has been resolved and it's basically as it was before, i.e 8m max length. I can't remember the weight limit, but I think it's 7.5t.

When did this change happen, as I've had a 4.5t 'van covered by them? The over 3.5t terms were slightly different, but the cover was there.

Thanks. AA will not cover over 3.5t mayday do not do european cover.
Not member of ccc any longer. Camc is via mayday and as stated don't cover europe.
We are 9k for other insurances, just need the breakdown. I will try a couple of your suggestions on Monday.
Thanks

The C&MC don't provide cover for the EU through Mayday, but they do through their Red Pennant scheme.

We had cover with Green Flag through our Direct Line insurance however the time we needed to be recovered Green Flag told us they don’t recover vehicles over 7m ours is 8m. I told them to take it up with Direct Line I’ve paid for recovery they know what vehicle I have and I need recovering. After a while they phoned back and said Direct Line have authorised the recovery. When we got home I cancelled the recovery with Direct Line and took out Premier plus with R.A.C through CAMC they don’t have a length or weight restriction. When we are able to travel to Europe with out fear of Covid flaring up we’ll add Euro cover.

The AA do not cover over 3.5t...at least they did not when we enquired.

We opened a Nationwide Flexplus account specifically for this cover (plus AA cover for the rest of our vehicles). At £13 a month we’re saving money.

Mine is through my insurance company. AIB I think.
