Boxer handbrake

The handbrake on our 2017 Boxer PVC is really not very good, making hill starts in the Lakes last weekend quite stressful. Is this normal? What is likely to be the problem?

That is not normal. Best way is to work through all the basics, Check for smooth cable operation. Fully release all cable adjusters, remove the disk/drums, clean, inspect and lube all components, rebuild. Then obtain correct adjusting sequence and follow it to the letter. It has to be done in a set sequence.

There is a central adjuster that pulls up both side handbrake cables at the same rate.
