Hi has anyone taken any booze into Spain IE a couple of bottles of gin before the duty free shop? does customs check everywhere in your van or wave you through .

We have always gone fully loaded, never been checked before. Not sure after B though.

Why would you take gin into to Spain? Have you not seen how cheap it is there?
But I like a particular brand (Bombay Sapphire ) which always seem to be more expensive abroad ,so I thought I might take a couple of bottles with me.

Well the letter of the law states1 ltr of spirit into Spain/France/ Holland. As its your favourite tipple just decant a few bottles into old plastic water bottles. If you were one of the first to be stopped that I have heard about going into the EU the search will find the one blue Gin bottle but the 5 2 ltr water bottles will not be noticed or inspected.

Happy hangovers

There appears to be something that visitors from distant lands fear when coming into Europe.....the shops in particular, Spain, are far cheaper than the UK, the fun of finding something different to try, and saving a packet too....we have known some visitors loaded for their duration of their stay, even bringing their favorite wine, which originated here....come and try something different, perhaps better and certainly much cheaper...(y)

Too right jumar, we love the osbourne brandy, proper sherry and local Spanish wines can't get them here in UK looking forward to our trip late April, once of the ship at Bilbao, first stop will be Lidl or Aldi, whichever we pass first, clocks ticking

Absolutely, we go to try different things, not lug a barrow full of the same old stuff we get at home, we mostly just carry enough to get us through to the first supermarket or village market, just the one thing we do take are tea bags although you can get these in Europe now but it saves looking for them.

. Wrong thread

Agreed. We like going to a bodega where the barrels are lined up and after tasting several come out with a couple of containers of fantastic local wine usually at unbelievable prices.

Yorkshire Tea bags and Nescafé Azera will be about the only things we’ll be taking from now on I would imagine. Maybe a packet of cereal bars having checked that we’re not arriving on a bank holiday! We’ve done that before.

Just be aware gin has an impact on plastic bottles (the botanicals leach out some of the compounds in the plastic and taints the gin!) even the specifically developed PET bottles you get onboard aircraft!
That's why it only has a shelf life of 12 months in PET.
Probably not an issue though as you'd be scoffing it long before then!

Hi. In the last 6 months we have entered Spain in our Burstner 5 times, twice from France (Biaritz), once from Andorra and twice from Portugal (where we are now). The only time we have even seen any officiaks was when we were stopped by at the Spanish when leaving Andorra (from experience they seem to permanently man that road crossing). With all our travel/covid documents to hand, the uniformed officers turned out to be Spanish Customs. We, seemingly like everyone else in the long queue, were simply asked if we were carrying any cigarettes. When we replied in the negative we were smiled at and simply waved through. Hope that helps.

Bombay Sapphire was £12.60 a LITRE in Morrissonsin Gibraltar 3 weeks ago.

I suppose it depends where one is entering Spain from. From France? How would anyone know or check as there are no border people.

Santander

We came from blighty into santander with 2 bottles of spirits after emptying our booze cupboard (stored, not drunk it 🙂). No worries. We are now loaded up with spirits, wine, and estrella galicia for our return back to blighty. Legal amounts mind 😉

Only place you have to be carefully is Andorra. They check alot.
I’ve not been to Andorra yet but it does sound like a strange place to visit. Do they check more because they’re not in the EU? Are they in the EU? Is it like Gibraltar in that they have very cheap booze etc?
I think I’ll need to visit there soon just to see what it’s like.

I wouldn’t bother- its a bit of a dump.

I have been skiing there a few times but I wouldn’t go there for anything else.

Cheap booze and fags though.

Chris...how can you possibly say Andorra is a dump....it's the Gateway to Spain....your escape from your beloved France...fill up with cheaper fuel, get new tyres for the van...buy a I've been to Andorra badge for your knapsack...and most of all get an Andorran stamp for your passport....
Do you know, Belgium has....more famous, well know people than Andorra....😃👍🇪🇦
