I'm selling my Hymer (low profile 6.2m) and the chap who is buying it wants to carry 2 canoes/kyaks on the roof. Is there anyone who does this and how will he go about this ?

I've no idea about this.

If the van hasn't already got roof rails & a ladder he will need them fitting. About £600 on the Hymer option list which includes aluminium checker plate on the roof, will also need the cross rails that bolt to the side rails, they ain't cheap.
Also what about payload?

Or if he prefers not to climb up on to his roof to load the kayaks, both @andy63 and myself have gone down the Kari-Tek high lift route.

This is a single or twin kayak carrying system that winds down the side of the van to allow loading from ground level.

He would need to speak to the firm to confirm that the system is compatible with that van.

I like that idea for short kayaks, but it would make for interesting bridge clearance with sea kayaks coming in at 17' 6" plus ground clearance.

It might just work for the buyer though (y)

OK you caught me out ...... I thought I'd better refresh my memory !

The P&H Scorpio in my avatar is actually an inch longer than I remembered and comes in at 17' 7".

http://www.phseakayaks.com/kayaks.php?kayak=Scorpio MKII HV

I'm think the new P&H Cetus that @andy63 has just bought is also a similar length.

Hi ken and yes the cetus comes in at 541cm or 17ft 10" approx..
And no I wouldn't fancy carrying it vereticle on the back of me mh
It adds enough height on the karitek high lift rack as it is...
In fact im going to look at the option of carrying it on its hull rather than on its side in J cradles. .. that should save a bit on height..
Andy..

Rest assured Andy, vertically or horizontally mounted, I won't be bringing mine along for elevenses in the morning and in fact, I'm not sure whether it's even worth bringing the dog in his current state.

He's still on short rations of exercise & excitement after his surgery and will end up jumping around like the idiot he is.

I'll give it some thought before I set off :D
