I've just had a quick look at the Nazare webcam and the waves are absolutely massive today - much bigger than yesterday and I thought they looked pretty impressive! 🌊🏄🏄‍♀️🌊

I've just been watching waves of this size in Sagres. Not surfable as they are just dumping and the ones smashing up the cliffs are sending spray 100 ft in the air. I've never seen anything like it in my life. Just stunning to watch the power of the ocean.

Helen cant quite believe the size & power of the waves. We’re sitting about 25m above the beach and the cliffs opposite are approximately 35m high. Wave faces were 20m on the bigger sets.

I can comfortably say today was one of the bigger days that I’ve been in the water, with solid 4ft to 7ft sets coming through. Occasionally 8ft. There was a lot of water moving about in the channel. Fair play to Helen who went out and took a 6ft wave right on the head!

These pics do not do the swell justice!

I saw another amazing phenomenon I've never seen before today. After my big wave on the head that sent me round the washing machine i decided I'd sit it out on the beach and watch and far out to sea the horizon, rather than being flat had these crazy mounds moving from right to left. They must have been 100's of feet across and were basically huge mounds of ocean swell coming round the headland. Isn't nature wonderful!

Rumours that Andrew Cotton & Lucas Chumbo have ridden a couple of contenders for “biggest waves ever” @ Nazare yesterday!

Its insane watching this! Hard to comprehend the scale. Apologies for the annoying ads that come up at the end.

Andrew cotton or cotty lives in the same area as me in North Devon. (y) Wish I could surf like him, but then he is a lot younger than me.::bigsmile:

So how did you get on then mate ?
The pass mark is 19 so I managed to scrape through with 24 out of 26. Annoyed with myself for getting two wrong! Grrr...

I've started studying for the Intermediate now and if I can get that I'll have a go for the Full - which has a lot more electronics in it but the pass mark is lower - around 60% so even I might manage.

It all keeps the brain active even if the body is falling apart. :)

Well done.. and good planning ahead too
the tech parts are not too bad if you have a basic grasp of elektrickery and do a bit of study with block diagrams
I found the section on licencing regs the hardest because you have to learn them by rote .. You can work out a tech question but the regs.. some are pretty obtuse ( but I am going back 40+ years so I have little doubt a lot has changed )
When you are all up and running we can set up a sked on 40 or 80 :)

DBK Well done on passing your foundation exam, I passed mine last year and i am wondering if i should go for the intermediate but at 73 years old i am getting a bit long in the tooth.
80 Metres is good for chatting in the UK but i stay mainly local on 2 metres/70cms, there was a lift on a few weeks ago and I spoke to someone on the Isle of White which from South Staffordshire is a fair way on 2 metres.
If you can get into a local repeater and connect to the hub net you can speak to someone the other side of the world.
