If your planning on parking at this aire. 🤔

Broken Link Removed

Lots of motorhomes are being broken into, one night 7 even when people are asleep inside, making a small hole under the handle. 😥 Bob.

Saw this as well - possibly on the same Spanish Facebook group. I was trying to find some info on proplates to post on that group but couldn't find anything in Spanish for them.

Yes I was trying to remember who fitted those plates, I think it was Riverbankannie. 😁

Yes we fitted them - after the break in! We were in Sitges south of Barcelona. Our minute “ding” under the handle was barely visible to the naked eye. Far smaller than those in the photo.

These appear to be very simple to fit and without removing the door-card. Anyone any experience of these?

Their blurb, my highlighting

Proplate is a clever, innovative range of security products designed specifically to protect the vulnerable area surrounding the door handle/s normally targeted by thieves. Made from stainless steel and installed in minutes, this product requires no drilling as they are secured to the vehicle by slotting behind/around the existing handle using the silicon sealant supplied. In most instances, there is no need to remove the manufactures internal door card either. Favoured by many fleet operators, this is a very cost effective solution to a very common problem. Proplate offers an ideal deterrent helping to prevent break-ins but is equally suited for re-securing a door/s after a theft has been attempted.

About £40 a door. https://garrisonlocks.co.uk/van-loc...ucato-chassis-cab-2006-onwards-proplate-p3176

Jim,

I bought a VW LT35LWB HR for my then business that had slightly larger [and thicker?] plates fitted to cab, side and back doors. Since I was working on my own for a week at a time on a cash sales basis in Shopping Centres, I was often unable to get to the bank until I got back home, so I needed the van to be secure!

Steve

I very much doubt that a crim would be able to punch a hole in the door without waking me. Never mind any noise, just the movement of the m/h would wake me up. (I don't drink alcohol ;) ).

I fitted the proplates to my x290 Globecar, the thread is here

Following this as seems a weak spot for the Ducato and it doesn’t take long for thrives to catch on....

Janie doesn't drink alcohol, we also have a dog 😉 they both take alot of waking up under normal circumstances. 😁 Bob.

This is where the argument for one door wins. One substantial door 1 obvious Heos and one not so obvious.

Whatever you do still leaves the windows to be got at, so get a safe as well.

I thought fiat have addressed this weakness in new vans recently by adding the anti manipulation plates around the mechanism on the interior of the doors. ( I'm sure I saw a photo somewhere)
However iirc, it was aa covert defence and there is no evidence of the uprated lock security visible from the outside, so there is a chance the criminal will attack the door in an unsuccessful attempt to actuate the lock and cause damage to the door skin anyway.
One of the advantages of the proplates is they are an overt statement that the locks are protected, so don't waste your time attacking them.

It's about bringing a deterrent. In a campsite or aire with multiple targets, they are likely to move along to a softer, easier target, so they do their job by acting as a deterrent

What if you are out of the MoHo?
That's where heosafe come in plus non smash film on your front cab windows.A determined thief will get in anywhere but don't make it easy for them.BUSBY.

I fitted ProPlates all round on the last van. For a Ducato, cab doors, side door and rear door all require access to the inside of the door from the reverse side. It's not technically hard and just requires some torx bits and some small ratchets. But it's bloody fiddley. I dropped the bolts inside the doors soooo many times. And it's hard to get everything in place without the cables detaching. Took me a full day to do all 4.

I fitted ProPlates to our PVC for that reason - I wanted the Crims to know the lock was modified. When I fitted mine (2017 model) I found that Fiat had indeed fitted reinforcement as the images show. The middle image is the Fiat plate.

What if you are out of the MoHo?
We strap our front doors together then go out the hab door..
Lock the milenco behind us.

Same as when sleeping.. the milenco can be locked from the inside or out.
Straps across the doors and dog kipping on the front seat.

When I say straps I mean tie down straps not ratchet straps,as these would take to long to remove in an emergency.

That is interesting. Only problem with the Fiat fitted ones (I guess our '69 plate Ducato will have them) is the thieves cannot see them. Hopefully, the visible deterrents the blue pulsing lights from the Vanbitz Growler, the Heosafe locks and the Thule locks on the garage doors will persuade them to go elsewhere.

I've never had reason to remove in a emergency but I keep an arborists 'rescue' knive close by that would cut through the ratchet strap I use across the doors when I'm overnighting out of the way.
