So my bottle of aftershave fell out of the cupboard directly above the bathroom sink and has punched a hole straight through. Luckily the piece that broke fits perfectly back in so I should be able to glue or bond it back in place.

My question is what is the best glue to use?

Thanks, Paul

Won’t help with short term repair but you could get your basin repaired with speedcoat if you can not source a replacement item or repair to your satisfaction. Speedcoat have a smoother / different product to the one used on shower trays.

Short term either gorilla superglue but possibly too brittle or push piece in place and smother with CT1, tiger seal, sikaflex underneath.

I would use Gel Coat filler preferably with some glass matt. Should be able to get it from a chandlers at a marina.
Do the repair underneath with the glass matt then finish off the top with the filler then smooth over with sellotape or cling flim. Important to use sellotape or cling film over the filler or it won't set properly or will take ages.
Also on the top side if you smooth it carefully it won't need any further finishing.

Thanks everyone. I’ll investigate further tomorrow.

A photo would help as different breaks require different treatment.
Milliput putty is great for many repairs. Its workable and removable with water until it's set. I've used it on all sorts.

I have a puncture hole in my shower (drain) its as large as a pinhead,i fixed it with a ”blob” of clear gorilla glue,i left it 24 hours before use …………and it worked. Was shocked and amazed at the same time

It depends on the sink material. Sounds like plastic.

If smooth it's plastic if rough it's fiberglass.

I'd use epoxy on both.

Fiberglass won't bond to plastic at all well. And epoxy is a better bond to fiberglass.

Super glue would glue it but I'd want to reinforce it behind. A criss-cross of gorilla tape is pretty strong.

It is plastic. I’m erring towards a temporary fix using strong glue and Gorilla tape behind to reinforce as the broken piece fits in perfectly. Then get a new sink fitted when we get back as there’s a couple of cracks too.

I’m feeling pretty stupid for storing the aftershave bottle above the sink…

D’oh! A lesson learned.

All depends on your circumstances. If you're away for a while and have the 'stuff', and as it looks like a surface mounted sink you could just replace it with a washing up bowl and cut a hole to fit the original waste fitting. Not pretty but it might get you out of a hole (sorry for the pun) and ensure no further damage us caused by potential leaking of the repair.

There’s a Dethleffs dealer only 30 minutes away in Girona so we’re going to see them tomorrow. Very handy as we were planning a visit to Girona this week anyway as it’s forecast to be showery over the next couple of days.

Thanks again for the help everyone, & for the hug Landy Andy

It’s just soooooo annoying when it’s your own fault. I just beat myself up over these things, so feel for you.

Hope it’s a simple fix 👍🏻👍🏻

Well now I'm even more pissed off. We've been into the nearby Dethleffs dealership and it turns out you can't buy just the sink bowl you have to buy the whole unit and it's 1200 euros!! Criminal and so wasteful. Started to feel pretty cheerful as they offered to fix it for us then and there only half an hour and a cost of 27 euros. Brilliant i thought as saves us faffing about looking for the right glue. Well I'm not happy at all with the fix and pretty sure I'd have done a better job myself with a tube of superglue and some bathroom sealent. The piece which was punched out and fitted perfectly into the hole so you could hardly see the cracks has been pushed in too far on one edge so there is a lip when you run your finger over it and will collect all manner of gunk i expect and underneath is just a big worm of black sealant all over the cracks. All dry now so not much we can do about it. I'm wondering if we can get something to fill over on the inside and sand to a smooth finish though at some point. Then maybe find a company when we're home to create us a new sink using the original as a mould.

As I mentioned above speedcoat do a special basin repair. Better to have a new basin, if you can get one, and it’s easily swappable, but if not.

Thanks will do. It's annoying that they don't sell the basin as it's clearly easily swappable with 3 small metal brackets and screws. Could by a small car for the price of the unit!

Broken Link Removed
It's ceramic 6kgs but give you some idea.
I would just put some tape over the break and sort it out back home. Must be plastic equivalents out there.(y)

Try sfm caravans who break late model caravans...
I'm guessing it's not unique to your van?
