I love reading all your campsite recommendation and wonder if I could also pick your brains on parking rather than sites. With retirement too distant to yet start planning for (realistic planning anyway!!), the kids not yet quite old enough to leave overnight but OK to leave for a day, can get themselves to school etc, we thought it would be lovely to pretend we have no ties and go off to the seaside for the day with the dog. We live in the midlands near Derby so can travel to many seaside destinations within about 3 hours or less. We'd love to have any recommendations of where we can roll up with views of the sea, make some brekkie and then spend a few hours walking on a dog friendly beach, preferably sandy as fido not too keen on pebbly beaches. Not worried about paying for parking not particularly looking for a freebie just a good find for the day.

We like Southport but you won't see the sea, unless you fancy a really long walk, plenty of parking on the front & plenty of sand 👍

scarborough north bay or huttoft car terrace near mablethorpe ,lots of parking

Lligwy beach Anglesey. Park over looking sea and if lucky see dolphins or seals. Cant overnight at present due to covid normally £10 a night if they collect it. Walk around headland to Moelfre lunch in Kimnel arms and wobble back. If you not driving.

Filey brigg was always nice, there is a campsite there but you can also drive up onto the brigg for a picnic ,or at least you could, and there was a cafe and if you walk down onto the beach and turn right you can walk into town , or just stay on the brigg and relax in your van :)

WE are planning to go to Caister and not to a campsite
We have found a pub stop that is almost on the Beach just have to eat but as the Pub is shut Monday we will be staying until 2 nights
WE also use a pub at Chapel Saint Leonards - free to stay just use the pub (drinks and/or a meal) can stay for 5-7 nights
We rarely use a campsite nowadays as we don't need the facilities for a caravan just somewhere level

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. Some nice ideas thank you.

Lytham St Annes right on the beach by the beach huts, pub, cinema swimming pool. Bus to Blackpool every 10 mins or a 30 min walk along the beach and the illuminations now on till Christmas , water and waste disposal available £5 a night

Are the illuminations on this year?

Scrap that I've just checked and they are. Will definitely go this year.

Two large car parks without height restrictions at Seaton Carew....about 2.5 hours from you.

As much sea and sand as you can manage, one part of the beach off limits for dogs till the end of September, but it’s clearly signed.

Not sure if it’s strictly allowed, but there’s regularly vans overnighting in both car parks, tho the larger car park does attract youngsters in cars on a night demonstrating their driving prowess.

Not a beach as such, but I believe Cliff Parade, Hunstanton, Norfolk PE36 6DP still allows on-road parking of any vehicle during the daytime (no overnight parking). It gives a view over the sea and there is a lawned area between the road and cliff ideal for picknicking etc. At popular times you may have to get there early to find a parking spot.

Wirral peninsula starting at New Brighton and going west.
