Bailey autograph 796
Exp
Since 2012
I have a Bailey Autograph 79-6 2017 which we have owned since March on our second outing the front canopy window blew open whilst travelling at 55mph on the a9 luckily we were able to pull in .
It actually broke one of the clips ! I managed to tie down for the trip home but this could have been a lot worse!!
I wasn’t to happy with clip system in the first place and had it back from the dealer we bought it from but obviously they didn’t fix it properly!
Has anyone had a similar problem as the system looks very cheap and weak??
Thanks

Hello Cliffyg
We have had a 2017 79-6 from new.Not quite the same problems but there is a thread on here somewhere detailing how some Autographs had the skylight clips/handles fitted 180 degrees out (I did try to look but I have left me glasses up the garden).
I will say that we noticed that the skylight seal had “blown” on our van on the way home from picking it up from the dealership - noisy above 50mph. A quick look on the side of the road followed by Dinmore Leisure having it straight back who confirmed / identified that the seal was incorrectly fitted. Anyway replaced under warranty and no problems since at speeds considerably and consistently higher than 55mph. After the repair it was noticeably easier to close the skylight and quite obviously better aligned.
TBH, overall quite impressed with the Bailey build quality.

Interesting! I have a 2017 Bailey Autograph 79 - 4T (bought from Dinmore Leisure) and on a recent trip to Bridport the front ( over the driver) skylight blew open at about 60 mph. As far as I was aware I'd close all the fastenings correctly and was bemused as to how this could have happened. I didn't stop immediately as we were due to get off the M5 and there was no danger of it flying open and causing damage as the wind was obviously pushing it shut. However I closed it and haven't had a problem since. I'll get Dinmore to check my seals to see if they too have been fitted incorrectly.

Regarding issues with that window, I spotted that the fastening clips had been fitted 180 degrees the wrong way round putting massive strain when pulled shut on the clip and bracket which may have been the reason yours failed. I'm wondering if its all connected. Photos are on this thread. See post #23 & #27.

Thanks guys here’s a couple of my pictures of window clips!

Cliffyg,
This is exactly what I was told what would happen by a MH tech if I didn't turn the brackets around 180 degrees as with them the way you have them you need so much force to close the window that the lever simply snaps. I recon they've all been fitted upside down. Have a look at the images I've posted and you can see that the chamfered part needs to be on the bottom.

Exactly the same happened to us this week with our Autograph 79-4. On M4 60mph and front rooflight blew open. Lucky the steadies were tight to stop it blowing off completely. Broke one clip and it appears the bottom section of the window unit has slightly split. Looking at it the base of the window is inserted in a rail and this moves freely. Should be hinged. Anyone had to buy new or fix? Cant see any new rooflights for sale.
