I am a newbie to motorhoming
No doubt you have all experienced the deluge of rain over the weekend. Yesterday I decided to brave the rain and put the rubbish out. We have moved the motorhome from its normal parking spot (down the side of the garage) to several feet back so the oil man can deliver heating oil. I looked up and saw what I first thought was a crack across the rear window, but on closer examination I realised that the window was inf factfull of water. 😲.

Butter fingers 🥴

Would this be an easy fix to reseal (if we can find the hole) or do we need to start sorcing a new window.

Most have a small hole somewhere, they are not sealed like double glazed units. They are relatively easy to take out, but you need to determine the source of the leak. Is it just the window that's got water in, any leaks to the inside of your van?

They are made out of two sheets of plastic stuck together. It is possible they have come apart somewhere. If this is the case it might be possible to run some super glue into the gap and then clamp them together - but it will need to be dried out first. You could make up a temporary cover out of plywood to plug the gap if you remove the window, which I think you will have to do to get it dry.

We stripped the rear seating away and checked the walls and the rear locker and all is dry, its looking like its just found its way into the window and stayed there.

We believe that the vehicle was sat for a while before we bought it, so having had the windows open this might of pulled the seal apart. The windows open really wide so are hoping that we can open it high enough to get the water to come out and see were it got in, then wait for a dry spell to take it out. Just worried if we take it out and brake something we might have a problem getting a replacement part as its 20 years old.

You may find a replacement hard to get but you could check the size of the window and have a look on line. I suggest doing any work when it as warm as possible. Cold plastic tends to be more brittle.

Polyplastic windows have a tendency for this, we had two go in a Caravan some years ago now. If there is no "plug", you can drill a small hole and drain it that way. You will then have to seal the edges of the window, If you are lucky you may find the source. Otherwise all you can do is carefully paint the edges with something like the glue used for plastic models which tends to "melt" edges together. Once you achieve a seal putting it in a warm environment for a couple of days should drive the remaining moisture out IF your hole is large enough introducing some "Silica Gel" crystals will absorb moisture.

The Polyplastic curse strikes again ! I think it's the screen printed dot pattern that interferes with the gluing. Try https://eeco-ltd.co.uk they will strip and reseal your window, or make you a replacement. You have to send the window to them and they won't reseal it if you have had a go yourself beforehand. You can get acrylic glue kits off t'internet if you fancy having a go yourself ?
